Clunk.
Clunk.
It's the middle of the night.
Clunk.
I sit up out of bed, annoyed by the knocking noises hitting my bedroom wall.
Clunk.
It had been a month.
A month since Luke left.
Ashton drank.
Calum disappeared.
5 Seconds of Summer was unheard of.
Clunk.
I get up out of bed finally to figure out what is making all the noise. It sounds like it's coming from the right side of my room, towards the front with the window. I tip toe across the cold floor, resting my hand on the sill.
Clunk.
It's hard to see anything because it's pitch dark out, but I lift the window open and look down. A rock shoots up and nearly hits me, but instead falls to the ground in the centre of my bedroom. "Fuck," I say.
"Sorry," I hear from below me.
"Calum?"
I could tell whose voice that was anywhere.
"Hey mate," He calls from below me.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"We need to talk," He says. "Come down here."
"Uhg. Hold on,"
For whatever reason, the ladder I left for Luke for when he stayed in my bedroom was still there below the window. I ran over to it and crawled down, trying not to slip. It was hard even seeing the ladder, it reminded me so much of him and the nights he stayed over, the nights he was scared, the nights that made me fall in love with him.
I guess I was excited to see Cal, but I would've been a lot more excited about it if it wasn't the middle of the night. We hadn't talked since the last band rehearsal when Luke left.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, rubbing my hands together trying to warm myself up.
"I've come to see you. I haven't seen you in forever.. I know that the school year is over but I still expect to see you around, mate." He explains, lightly hitting my shoulder in play.
I kicked the dirt. "I know, but I hate seeing everybody." I look up at him, noticing that he's wearing a hood to cover up almost his entire head. I reach my hand up and move the hood off of his head, wondering what he's hiding. "What did you do to your face?"
"Oh," He says shyly. "Erm, it was, erm, Louis."
"Louis hit you?"
"Yeah, him and Liam were getting after me for being at the mall by myself, they called me a pussy and hit me right here," He pointed. "It's not as bad as you might think, though. I'll be okay."
The sound of that made my heart stop a second. Everything was just falling apart. I didn't want to blame anybody for it, but for a while now, no one is happy. Everyday feels like the last.
We're both quiet for the longest time.
"Do you miss Luke?" He asks.
I twist my fingers around the loose strings on my sweater. "Yes." My face gets hot and I start to cry. "I still don't understand why he had to go, though."
"He didn't tell you?"
"He tried, but the day he came over I was so worked up and wouldn't let him. I still don't think it matters though, if he wanted to get out of here so badly then he should."
