Chapter 23

"Lily, Lily hello." I blink my eyes a few times bring my attention back to where I was. Connor looked a little worried he placed his hands on mine. "Lily, you okay?" I looked at him and stood from the couch grabbing my wine. I took one huge gulp of my wine and walked back to the kitchen to refill it. "Lily?" I grabbed the bottle and filled my glass. The oven timer went off. Without thinking I grabbed the hot pan. "Ouch! Shit!" I through the pan on the stove. "Lily!" Connor rushed over and looked at my hand. "Let me see." He looks at my hand and goes to grab his first aid. "Here." He comes back and puts medicine on my hand and wraps it.

I grabbed my glass of wine but Connor took it away. "Talk to me." Connor pulled me into a hug and we sat on the floor talking. "Connor I just want to go back to normal. I want to forget the attack I want to leave the past with in the past." Tears coming down my cheeks Connor held me and let me cry for a bit. "Lily. You should really talk." I wouldn't let him finish. I didn't want anyone else to know and he knew that.

The rest of the night went ok, we ate dinner and watched a movie. I went to my room and decided it was time for me to head back to my apartment  soon and Connor and I can actually try this relationship how I wanted it to be, slow. I walked to my bed and climb into bed. It was definitely a long day and I needed to sleep definitely for tomorrow. I turn over and turn the lamp light off. I placed some music on and turn it on low.

"Beep!, Beep!, Beep! I turn over turning off the alarm. I throw the covers off and get out of bed. Walking to the closet I grab my scrubs and put them on. My hand was stinging from the burn but luckily it was to bad. I walked out of my room seeing Connor drinking coffee and had one out and ready for me. "Good morning." He said with a smile as he was drinking. "Morning man this smells great. I took a sip and place the cup back down. "I can drive you to work today." I agreed and took another sip of my coffee. We got the rest of our things and walked to the door to leave.

We made it to the hospital and Connor parked his car and we both got out. We walked into the ED and I made my way to Maggie and Connor went to the doctors lounge. "See you soon." Connor said and kissed me. I walked to Maggie as she was giving direction to Will and April with a incoming patient. "Hey Lily! Finally working on the floor?" I smiled at Doris and said yes. "Here is your badge and you should be good to go up to the surgical floor."I thanked Maggie and headed to my floor. Connor was waiting at the elevator and we both got on. "This should be fun, working along side one another." I smiled at Connor and rolled my eyes. "You know there is a good chance I will be with Dr.Latham. And I think he might be better working with." I laughed as Connor raised his eyebrow and we both got off the elevator. 

Connor went to do his rounds and I walked to the nurses station. "Hey, Lily." A few of the nurses was at the nurse's station. "Hey everyone." I was happy with starting the job I at least knew most of the staff. I looked at the schedule and seen that I had three surgeries I was to assist with two with Dr.Latham and one with Connor. "I didn't think I was going to work with Connor sorry Dr.Rhodes." The charge surgical nurse came up me. "I want to put you with who you work well with. End of the day will assign you to a team." I thought that was odd because I knew that not how things normally go. "Has tone Connor." I thought.

I got ready for my first surgery checked patients virtual and then went to the lead team nurse. She wrote a few things down then we got ready. Walking into the surgical room was breathtaking and nerve racking all at the same time. I started going over each instrument in my head. "Lily" I snapped back to where I was and started to help organize the instruments. The patient was wheeled in and was transferred to the surgical table. "Ok, here we go." Dr.Latham walks in and we are ready to began.

*4 hours later*
The surgery was finally over and we were closing. Dr.Latham walked out I placed all the instruments back on the tray and counted for the third time. "All here." I said moving the tray away. The survey went great and I actually felt good. I walked out of the surgical room with the nurses. "So how was it?" One asked. " I loved it." I smiled. "You looked like you had been doing it for years. You know, pro." I see Connor walk our way. "Give me a moment." I said. The nurses walked in and Connor came up to me placing his arm around me. "How was it? I herd you did great." I smiled knowing Dr.Latham and Connor talked. "Love it." Connor smiled and kissed my head. "See you later." I grabbed Connor before he got to far." Connor wait, why was I put on the schedule with you and Dr.Latham?" Connor looked down. "Connor please tell me you didn't." Connor looked back at me and held my hips. "I want to see if you would work well with me." I placed my hand on his face rubbing his check with my finger. "No, take me off. I don't want to work together with we are together. I don't want anything to go wrong with us. And seeing one another this long I. A day could effect our relationship." I knew he wanted to disagree but thankfully he didn't.

The next surgery with Dr.Latham went great. Everything was falling into place I finished the day checking on a few patients and then It was time for Connor and I to leave. I walked over to the doctors lounge and waited on Connor. "You ready?" I asked opening the door. "Connor walks out with his bag in hand. "You hungry?" He puts his arm around me and brings me in. "Starving." I said smiling. We walk to the elevator and get in. "Dr.Latham comes in with us. "Floor?" Connor asks. "Same one." He said. He turns around looks at me. "Good work today Lily. Glad to have you on my team." The doors open and Dr.Latham nods and walks off. "Wow, did he just?" Connor was shocked and so was I. " way to go Lily." We laugh walking out of the ED. "Pizza Connor." Connor agreed and we went home
