Words of Moon

I met her under that tree.
My heart racing like
a reinless horse,
climbing up to the mouth,
stopped just in time
by teeth.
I was sweating
feelings for her,
which comforted and skinned
my heart in one blink.

'I love you!'
I knelt before her,
smiling at her dearly.
My eyes shone brighter
than the creek;
and she's standing,
lost in thought.

'I can't.'
the words slipped from
her mouth and down my throat,
like a thorned apple, melted
in my heart;
a slow poison.

'Why?' the moon asked.

'Because,' I stopped my heart,
'she hates me.'

'How?' the stars twinkled bright red.

'I wanted her to stay with me,'
I stared at the chilly creek,
'she felt like a caged bird
that belongs to me alone.'

'Did you try again?' the moon floated closer.

'No,' I shrugged,
'I couldn't try. She's like
fire that burns desire.
I was once desire,
but she flamed me alive.
Instead of turning to ashes,
I broke into pieces.'

The moon, the stars , the night
fell silent.

'I show you one piece
every night.'
