Chapter Thirty-One

"How do I say this...?" Jimin starts. "When I was in high school, we had a friend group. It was me, Taehyung, Lia, and Taemin."

You look at him, waiting for him to continue.

"I still remember this like it all happened last week. It was our first year and we were all in the same class and became very good friends. But things changed in the second year. Taemin had a crush on Jisu. Well, you know her as Lia. And yes, she was the one who told me I would be a good idol."

Taemin...of course he would be involved in this.

"We all knew that Taemin liked Jisu. Me and Taehyung both knew. And I'm sure Jisu did too. He didn't hide it very well. But Jisu liked things the way they were. She knew that they wouldn't last very long, and she didn't want it ruin the friendship between them. She also knew that if she rejected him, things would change. She needed a way to let him know that she didn't like him that way, but she also didn't want to hurt him."

And...what does that have to do with this whole thing?

You knew you were being impatient but you just couldn't help it.

"One day, she asked me if we could pretend to date. That's...where the bracelet that you saw came in. She thought that Taemin would get the message and his feelings for her would go away. And I agreed. So we were in a fake relationship. But I never actually liked her that way! I only thought of her as a little sister."

Oh. 

So I misunderstood the whole thing.

He never lied to me.

Technically...it is true that he never had girlfriend before since they weren't even really together.

Why did I make such a big deal over something that happened so long ago?

"Jimin I'm so sorry. I misunderstood the whole thing and I got mad at you even though it was your fault." you say.

"It's ok, babe," Jimin says, slipping his hand into yours. "If I were in your situation, I would've misunderstood too. And I didn't mean what I said about you leading Jungkook on. I know that's not what you meant to do."

"I-I just didn't know how to say no to the lunch without him knowing that I was listening to your conversation. But I did tell him that I wouldn't date him!"

"Y/N I trust you to do the right thing," he says before continuing, "So we pretended to date, and except one thing went wrong. Taemin thought we were actually dating for real. He thought Jisu really liked me and got really jealous. He never listened when we tried to explain. It made it worse that Taehyung knew too. Taemin said we were lying to him and that fake relationships were something that only happened in webtoons." He laughs softly at that memory.

"T-that's why-" you start.

"Yeah. That's why he dislikes me so much. It's possible that to this day, he still believes that we were dating. Jisu must've tried many times to convince him. I don't think he ever listened. After we started dating, he must've felt as if I took another girl away from him."

"Anyways, me and Taehyung remained close after that incident. But Jisu, she told me that after pretending to date me, she started falling for me. And after that, things got really awkward. Then, we just kind of drifted apart.  And our friendship was done. That was it." he said sadly.

You make a mental note to call Lia after.

Later that evening, you were back at your house.

"Lia?" you say as soon as she picks up.

"Yeah, Y/N?" she says.

"I have a question. It might seem really direct but umm I just wanted to know and-"

"Y/N...just ask it," she says softly.

"I know about what happened between you and Jimin in high school," You take a breath before asking, "Do...you still like him?"

There was just silence.

"Oh um I'm sorry you don't have to answer tha-" you start.

"You already know the answer to that question," Lia says, "Yes I do like him."

You wanted to get defensive and tell her that Jimin is yours. But you also felt a little bad for her.

"I know you're dating him, Y/N. And... it's ok. Really. It hasn't been long since I debuted anyways. I won't be able to date him and I know he doesn't like me back. I've already accepted that. Don't worry, Y/N. I won't get in the way of you two."

"Lia..."

"Just...treat him well. I just want him to be happy. Really, that's all." Lia says, smiling sadly.

For some reason, the last part makes your heart ache a little.

Jimin picked you up on his way to your company building. 

During the ride, all of a sudden, there were a lot of posts about you and Jimin.

Curious, you go online and found out that this morning Dispatch just leaked that you and Jimin were dating. 

You scroll and find screenshots from behind-the-scenes clips from your photoshoots, claiming that you two were dating back then, even though you weren't yet.

Apparently, this person spent quite a bit of time following you two.

Another clip showed Jimin defending you in front of Taemin from your comeback stage.

That seemed like it was so long ago...

There were also pictures taken of your date at the dessert shop with Jimin.

You smile at the memory of it.

You continue to look through the article. 

The pictures were provided by someone who decided to go by "J".

Although there were negative comments here and there, most of them were supportive of you two.

"Jimin-ah, someone leaked our relationship," you say to him.

"What? This morning?" As soon as he said that, a text came in.

"Yeah."

Manager: Y/N

Manager: Y/N come to my office at soon as you get here

You: Ok

You: It's about me and Jimin, right?

Manager: Yes

Manager: Is he with you?

You: Yes

Manager: Tell him to come to

Manager: I'll let his manager know

"Mochi we're going to my manager's office first thing," you say, calling him by his nickname. He smiles at this.

"Alright."
