You stared aimlessly across the room as a wave of excitement washed over your broken mind. The way she leaned against you activated something in your brain, something you thought would never sense again, "So do you want to get going?" You ask. The silence in the room remained as you forced your eyes to zone back into focus, "Loona?"
You look down to find the once-occupied seat, empty and the break room door ajar. Hopping onto your feet, you proceed to the exit and quietly peek into the lobby, "Wow, I didn't think you were ever going to move from in there" Loona teased from across the room.
She had already collected her belongings and was waiting for you by the front door, "I wasn't in there that long" you retorted, slightly embarrassed by your flustered reaction.
"Right," she noted with a sarcastic grin, "So we going to head out?"
"Sure, I think The Greyhound is only a few streets away" you reply, recalling the advertisements around the city.
Heading toward the elevator, you both step inside and push the button for the bottom floor. As you backed up against the wall, you noticed Loona messaging on her phone, "Who's that?" You ask, trying to get a conversation rolling.
She frustratedly pocketed the device and exhaled, "Blitzø, I'm gonna tell him where I'm going, he gets pissy if I don't."
"Wait, aren't you old enough to not have to do that?" You asked with confusion.
"YES, but Blitzø has his head so far up his ass he can see that himself" she spoke in a huff as you stepped out into the lobby, "What about yours?"
"My parents are long gone, and anyone I was supposed to look up to when I was younger, we're pricks" you answered bluntly, "Lucky I managed to get out when I did, although being sixteen and alone on the streets, wasn't great"
She seemed to sympathise with you for a moment, before swiftly blocking out her emotions, "How did you make money?" She asked.
You exhaled out of your nose as you both stepped out into the dampened street view, "Surprisingly, that was the easy part, a lot of people have demons that need taking care of"
"You were you an assassin at sixteen?" She asked in a sarcastic voice.
"I properly started at seventeen but yes" you corrected, making a turn and heading in the direction of The Greyhound.
"Fuck off!" She chuckled, rolling her eyes as she did.
You laugh at her distrust, "Why do you think Blitzø took me on so quickly? Why do you think he put me up on that building today? He only knows the bare minimum, and even that was enough"
She noticed your persistence which surprised her, "You're serious, how did you not get caught?"
"Well, it's easy to avoid conviction and blend in with crowds if people see you as a shy teenager" You answered simply, "Anyway, long story short, I had shitty parental figures for the most part"
"I know that feeling" Loona sighed.
"How so? Blitzø doesn't seem that bad, a bit controlling, but I'd take him over mine any day" You noted.
"No, although it fucking infuriates me to admit, but Blitzø isn't that bad, but my real dad is another story" She explained with a frown. You listened silently as she continued to open up, "My mom left him when I was born, leaving us alone, he tried but gave in to alcohol and eventually the voices in his head, leaving me in the orphanage at eleven"
She produced a lighthearted smile to hide her true expression, you'd clearly hit a nerve, "Way to go" you thought to yourself.
"Fuck I'm sorry, I didn't-" You hastily apologise before being abruptly cut off.
