"MARRIAGE?" I yelled at my captain.
"It's not as bad as it sounds!" Hange said, trying to calm me down.
"What do you mean it's not as bad as it sounds? We're talking about Captain Levi!"
Hange winced, cause they knew I was right. (hange's gender is not confirmed, so for this story I will keep them as they/them)
"Can you please explain to me why I have to marry Levi Ackerman?" I said, trying to process the information that was just given to me.
"Yes!" They said excitedly. "So, since Levi has become 'Humanity's Greatest Soldier', the people are starting to take notice of him, and well...take notice of his past. He grew up in the Underground and at one point was a thief. I'm not certain on whether you were aware of that?" Hange asked.
"I wasn't." I said emotionlessly. They continued.
"Erwin believes that giving Levi a wife will help his status socially and help the people accept him better. He is necessary to the Survey Corp, so losing him over something so silly would be a shame."
"I see." I said, even though it still seemed dumb. "So this is Commander Erwin's idea?" I asked.
"Yes." Hange said.
"Why me?" I continued to question.
"Well you were once part of Levi's squad, and well...-"
"It's cause I'm short isn't it?" I deadpanned. I stood at 5'2, just an inch shorter than Levi. (please do not get upset if you aren't 5'2! please change this however you like! i am 5'2, and just wanted to add this funny detail for all my other 5'2 peeps out there!)
Hange giggled. "I'm sorry, (y/n)! That's not why, I promise! Erwin has his reasons. You can always ask him."
"Does Levi know?"
"Yes." Hange said.
The room went silent for a bit as I tried to collect my thoughts. I hadn't seen Captain Levi in months, since I suffered an injury when I was on his squad. I got caught by a Titan, and Levi saved me. I fell from the titan's grasp and hit the ground hard, breaking my shoulder and collar bone.
I was eventually dropped from his squad, since I struggled to heal and put on medical leave until further notice. Hange then picked me up from the limbo I was in, and now I am part of their squad.
I guess I did owe Levi a favor, for saving my life. But for him, that was probably just an everyday thing.
"One more thing. The wedding will be, uh, well...public." Hange said, averting their eyes.
"WHAT?" I yelled. I took a deep breath and apologized instantly for yelling at my captain, but the thought of getting married was already a lot, but getting married in front of all of Sina was horrifying.
"Well the people have to know!" Hange explained.
That's when I finally sat down in one of the chairs in Hange's office. I let my head fall into my hands as my frustration peaked.
Hange gave me a moment, and then began speaking again.
"Listen, (y/n)...You are the best person for Levi." They said. I looked up to meet their eyes, as they gave me a gentle smile.
