Reece always hated hospitals, she never even considered being a nurse or a doctor for a career. being in a building surrounded by death and pain all day never was appealing to her. so she when woke up in one, she dreaded how many more days she'd have to spend there. she squinted her eyes from the crisp, white light above her, looking around to find only one person in her room. he was asleep in a chair right beside her bed, dark circles under his eyes and his hood over his head, but she could tell it was her boy. she was quiet, watching him sleep peacefully and feeling grateful she lived to see his pretty face again.
there was a brace on her back, so she figured she broke it when she fell, but she had no idea what story peter gave blake so she wouldn't find out he was spider-man. peter sensed someone watching him and slowly opened his eyes. he looked up, sighing in relief at the sight of his pretty girl, awake and alive.
"hey." he cooed, sitting beside her on the bed. "i'm so sorry." a tear slid down his cheek and she reached up to wipe it away.
"it's not your fault." she whispered, cupping his cheek. he leaned into her touch, shaking his head. "i'm okay, peter."
"no, you're not." he mumbled, gesturing to the state she was in. "i vowed to your dad to protect you and not even a year later, i do this."
"peter, look at me." she lifted his chin so his gaze would catch hers. "if i'm not dead, you did all protecting you could. obviously i'm gonna come out with a couple of bruises, but i'm fine."
he rested his forehead onto hers, she sighed. she had never loved anyone more than she loved him. he leaned forward to kiss her lips softly, almost scared to touch her in her fragile state.
"i love you." his voice broke and she smiled, her eyes watery.
"i love you more." she looked in his eyes. his big, beautiful, brown, doe eyes. she saw herself with him forever. she pecked his lips again, bringing him into a hug. she held onto him for a long time, and he held onto her even tighter. he didn't know what he would've done if he lost her. he didn't know where he would be or if he would even be here. she was his life, his path. and she was always gonna be his path.
"i thought i lost you." he whimpered into her neck and she held the back of his head, scratching his scalp softly to soothe him.
"but you didn't. i'm right here. what do i always say, hm?" she pulled him back so he would look at her.
"i can't get rid of you." he mumbled with a smile, shaking head.
"that's right. and you never will." she laughed, bringing him in to kiss his lips.
"i hope you know, i'm gonna marry you one day, reece cambrey." he told her and she lifted her eyebrows in surprise.
"what makes you think i want to marry you?" she teased and he scoffed dramatically.
"who wouldn't wanna marry this?" he gestured up and down his body with a smirk. she laughed, taking his hands in hers and kissing the smooth skin.
"you're my soulmate." she smiled widely, heavily grateful for her boy. "forever and ever."
