Peter helped reece up the steps of her front porch, encouraging her every step she made, to which she put a hand over his mouth with a smile. he thought over his options. and the only outcome that made sense was the worst one for the city. he sighed, opening the door for reece and holding her arm for support. she had her back brace on, no wheelchair needed, but the doctor ordered that she take it easy for a few days. blake was behind reece in case she fell backwards, her maternal instincts going haywire with stress. she sighed, pushing the hair from her face.
"take her up to bed, please. i'm gonna make her some food." blake told peter who nodded softly and guided her to her room. reece huffed as she sat down, wincing when she realized she couldn't hunch over like she normally did.
"on the bright side, i'm gonna have amazing posture after i get out of this brace." she laughed, looking over to peter beside her. though the brace was uncomfortable, at least it was under her shirt so she wasn't too horrified with embarrassment.
"reece, i've got to quit." peter told her, his gaze was casted upon the floor, his converse-clad feet fidgeting in anxiousness.
"quit what, peter?" she asked, eyebrows furrowed.
"if i want to keep you safe, i've got to quit being spider-man." he stated firmly. reece's mouth dropped open in shock.
"w-what? why? because of little ole me?" she scoffed. "peter, i am fine. i always will be fine—"
"no, reece. one day, you're not gonna be fine!" he raised his voice and reece closed her eyes. "i want to be with you, i love you. i want us to get married and have little cute babies and maybe even a dog, in our own house, with jobs like everyone else. and i can't be that for you if i keep up with this shit."
"look at me." she said softly. he didn't look up. "peter parker, look at me." she strengthened her tone, he looked up and she almost broke her hard exterior when she saw the tears in his eyes. "you're spider-man, and i love that. but i love peter parker more. you are everything to me. you've been with me through thick and thin. this city needs spider-man, that is what makes you happy. i can't let you give that up for me."
"reece, it's not your choice. you make me happy." he turned to her fully, cupping her cheeks in his hands. "i love you more than anything else in this whole world. and if being spider-man will make me lose you, i can't— and i won't."
"peter," she brushed his hair back from his forehead, gazing into his brown eyes that she loved so much. "i'm not going to make you choose. that's bullshit. don't worry about me. do what makes you happy."
peter dropped his head, crying softly. reece's heart broke for her boy, but she was not going to be selfish and tell him how she would stay up every night wondering if he made it home another night. she knew spider-man made him feel like he was worth something, even though she thought peter parker was worth the same, if not more. she held his head to her chest, scratching his head softly.
"take a break from being the hero for a while. you need to lose some of that stress," she giggled, massaging his shoulders. he let out a groan against her chest, making her laugh again. "got all this tension in your shoulders, let it go, pete."
he looked up and pulled her into a kiss, being gentle as to not hurt her back. she hummed in surprise, kissing him back with ease.
"if you didn't have a fucking back brace on, i'd be letting go of a lot of tension right now." he breathed out and reece gasped.
"peter parker!" she hit him in the side, making him smile and pull her into a hug.
"i love you, reece cambrey."

Peter took reece's advice. he took a break from being spider-man, much to the city's confusion. everyone was wondering where spider-man went, what happened to him, if he was ever coming back. peter hadn't even decided that himself, if he was being honest. crime was rising all over the city and he felt guilt in the pit of his stomach every second of every day.
reece noticed his slightly dimmed eyes, the spark was almost gone. she felt horrible. she blamed herself for his state. peter constantly assured her that it was his final decision and his complete fault.
currently, they were sat in peter's kitchen eating breakfast. playing on the tv was a re-run of that 70's show, reece's favorite. suddenly, the screen went black and a news reporter popped up.
"interrupting for breaking news, aleksei sytsevich has caused severe damage to the city. he claims to be looking for "the spider" many know as spider-man. we hope that the hero will show up soon, who knows what will happen if he doesn't." the reporter finished and eric foreman came back to the screen.
reece swallowed her cereal harshly, looking over at peter who sighed and shot up from his seat.
"i'm going." he nodded, putting his bowl in the sink. "i have to go back, reece." he took a deep breath and turned to look at her. she wore a comforting smile and he never felt so relieved. this was the right thing to do.
"go get em, tiger." she stood up and kissed his lips gently. he smiled and grabbed his backpack before running off to the city.
