I was soon standing in front of the building with my new uniform as my heart paced up. I'm going to finally meet them in person. I gulped and prayed in my head before walking in.

I was guided to my classroom by one of the teachers as soon as I stepped in. I looked around to spot any familiar faces but the only thing I spotted was the empty seat right in front of a sleeping figure.

I grimaced and started walking towards it to sit down when the student behind it grabbed the chair and looked up to meet my eyes, “It's someone's seat.”

I flinched and it took me a moment to come to my senses. Jake?

“Oh, I didn't know. Sorry,” I spoke with an awkward tone.

His cold stare pierced through into my soul for a few seconds before he suddenly got up from his seat.

“You must be the new student! Hi, I'm Jake Sim! I'm also from Australia,” he smiled cheerfully and held out his hand.

My eyes widened and hesitantly shook his hand, “Yeah, I'm Emma Jones. Nice to meet you.”

He randomly started speaking to me in English, “You can talk to me in English if you feel more comfortable with it.”

“Ah, alright,” I grinned.

“Here, the teacher saved a spot for you. That one's actually for my friend,” he said, a chuckle following after it.

“Are we the only foreigners here?” I asked, obviously knowing that Jay was in the same grade as us.

Jake cackled and was about to answer when someone cleared his throat, “I'm also here.”

As I had guessed, it was Jay. It seemed like he was going to sit in front of me. “Oh, hi, nice to meet you,” I smiled.

“Nice to meet you too,” he politely smiled back.

He seemed to be a lot more decent than I had thought. I expected him to be the intimidating popular guy from the class.

“Jay, accompany her for the time being, won't you? I need to use the bathroom,” Jake patted the latter's shoulder before walking out.

Jay turned his head to me, “So, you're Emma?”

“Yeah, I guess,” I settled down on the seat behind him. I was contemplating whether I should bring up Youngjae at once or not.

He swiftly turned around to face me, resting his forearms on my table as he did, “How long has it been since you arrived?”

“Uh...I think it has been three to four weeks?” I answered as my eyes focused on something else.

“Almost a month, that means. Do you have trouble understanding when someone speaks to you?” He asked, merely curious.

“Just sometimes,” I nodded.

“If you don't mind me asking, do you live in a dorm? Or you live alone somewhere else?” He pressed his lips together.

“No, I live with my cousin, for the time being,” I answered.

“So, you're going to move out once you graduate or...?” He trailed off, raising his brows.

“Yeah, that's the main plan, I suppose,” I spoke, quite unsure.

“I think I've asked you too many questions. Is there anything you're curious about? Feel free to ask me anytime,” he pulled up a small yet charming smile.

“Sure...” I chuckled before averting my gaze to the door, silently wishing for Jake to return any time soon.

A slim and tall figure walked in and it didn't take me long to recognise who it was. I had watched way too many performances of him to recognise him from just his body proportions.

Sunghoon loosely carried his bag on his left shoulder as he headed for the seat I had tried to sit on and dropped his bag on the table before eventually plopping down. Did they assign their seats beforehand?

He turned to Jay, “Hey, where's Jake?”

“He left for the bathroom not long ago. You didn't meet each other back there?” Jay looked at the hallway and then at him.

“It seems like it,” he released a sigh.

“You look grumpy. Did another toddler beat you in the rehearsals again?” Jay smirked.

“It's not funny. You would feel the same if they called you too old to participate in the tournament,” Sunghoon furrowed his brows.

Jay started cackling, “Boy, you're eighteen years old, of course they're going to say you're too old.”

“I won the first place four times in a row. I want to be known as a legend and win again one more time. And no, I'm still seventeen years old,” Sunghoon stated.

Jay shook his head in dismissal, “You know you can try out other competitions than that, right?”

“Too much competition...” Sunghoon muttered.

They looked like they had completely forgotten or gotten over the news of their friend who had gone missing.

What is taking Jake so long?

Jake calmly walked up to the rooftop and observed his surroundings before disappearing into thin air as he teleported himself to a dark cabin.

He closed his eyes for a few seconds until a voice rang out from the darkness, “You're here.”

He instantly looked here and there but there wasn't anyone around. “Dad?”

“I see that you've come again to ask me about Youngjae.”

Jake chuckled guiltily, “Why won't you just tell me where she is?”

“Won't that make it too easy for you?” His father returned a chuckle.

“Dad, can't you see that I'm desperate?”

“We've already talked about this in person a few days ago. I've told you many times that I don't know where she is.”

“You know that Heeseung's mother is still alive and that she faked her death. You must know her son's whereabouts at least.”

“Every vampire out there knows about that. That doesn't mean that I personally know her.”

“Can't you still reach up to her and ask?”

The man sighed, “You know what? Giving you the permission to fall in love with a human was a mistake. What would you do even if you find out that she's still alive? She's clearly in a more serious relationship with Heeseung now. It was partly your fault for not giving her enough affection before she went missing. Get over it.”

“Dad—”

His father abruptly sent him back to the school rooftop, leaving him dizzy and alone.

Once he adjusted to the sudden effect, he instantly fell on his knees and started crying, clearly knowing that he had lost the girl he loved to someone else.
