I paced back and forth in my room a few hours after Jay had left. The thought of Jake knowing that I was with Jay the whole day made me restless.
He wouldn't think it was Jay. Even if he knew it was him, he probably won't be upset about it...right? There's no way I can make an excuse about what happened when I was supposed to be with him.
I winced and sat down on my bed, thinking hard. But then he also said that something important came up. Maybe I should make it up to him tomorrow? As soon as that thought ran through my head, Heeseung instantly came to my mind.
He surely won't kill me for talking to him about unrelated topics—
“Thinking about me?” A familiar voice rang out from behind, making me scream and flinch just to get my mouth covered with a hand while the other wrapped around my waist to keep me from running away.
Lee Heeseung. I swore through my eyes as I turned my head towards him. He smiled wickedly and whispered, “You know what happens if you let your cousin know who's with you right now.”
He quickly locked the door just by looking at it to keep Chris from storming in. Soon enough, Chris started knocking on the door anxiously, “Are you okay in there, Emma?”
Heeseung slowly pulled his hand away from my mouth, threatening me with his eyes. “I'm okay, just watching a horror movie,” I shakily responded as I still felt his arm around my waist.
Chris sighed from the other side, “You got me scared for a moment there. You should be studying right now, you know?” His footsteps eventually faded away and that was a cue for Heeseung to let me go.
I immediately jumped up from the bed and turned to him, just to see him chilling on my bed. “What are you doing here? What do you want? How did you even know where I live?”
“Do you know that your Korean is a lot better when you're scared?” He chuckled.
“What do you want?” I asked once again, not letting him change the subject.
“Oh, come on, don't put your guard up just because I'm here. You weren't like this when you were alone with Jay here.”
I scoffed, “You literally popped into my room unannounced and held me captive for a few minutes. Of course, I'll be putting my guard up. Just tell me what you want.”
“Nothing, just wanted to check on you when I heard you thinking about me.”
“So it's true...”
“What's true?”
“People like you, being able to read minds.”
He laughed, “Of course. I consider it as a blessing and at the same time, a curse. If you knew what I'm thinking about right now you'd know what I mean.”
“I'm not interested,” I sneered.
He smirked and stood in front of me in a blink of an eye before whispering, “Your theories about me say it otherwise.”
I continued to stare at him intently while he flipped through one of my books on my table. He exclaimed as soon as he saw the portrait of him that I had drawn.
“I look hot in here—” I quickly closed the book as I panicked and pressed it shut with both my hands.
He merely chuckled and held both of my wrists while I was still keeping the book closed. I looked at him and then at his hands, visibly flustered.
“Now I know the reason why they're head over heels for you,” he softly spoke, “You're adorable when you're vulnerable.”
“Vulnerable, my ass,” I freed myself from his grip, “I'm not scared of you, not even one bit. Just leave me alone.”
He folded his arms, “Such a brave thing to say in front of someone who can sense your feelings.”
I remained silent, making him grin, “But you do clearly know that I can't hurt you.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat, not knowing what he was talking about, “You can't hurt me?”
“Obviously. Why do you think you're still alive right now?” He snickered, “You got a guy named Jake who's all over you, I'm not risking anything to give him a clue.”
“What do you mean?” I furrowed my brows.
“Right...” he trailed off, “You won't know. Feel free to ask him yourself, if you dare.” He left with a smirk, leaving me confused.

The following day, Chris had left the apartment early in the morning as there had been an emergency in his parents' neighbourhood. I believed that he would not return until it was dark, and that it was the perfect moment to call a friend over.
Eventually, the doorbell rang and I rushed to open the door. “Getting invited to your place is what I least expected from you,” Jake spoke as soon as the door opened.
I grinned, “I have to make up to you somehow. Come on in, we have a lot to talk about.”
He cautiously walked inside and browsed around, “Is no one around?”
“My cousin left early, he wouldn't be back any soon so I invited you over for company.”
He walked towards the couch and sat down with a small smile, “Felt lonely?”
“Bored, to be exact. I wouldn't have asked you to come over if there were some interesting stuff going on in the internet.”
“Still,” he moved his brows and smirked slyly, “Out of all the other friends you could've invited...”
I cackled, “I mentioned it earlier, it's just a way for me to make up to you.”
“With what, exactly? I get that you wanted me over, but for what?” He leaned back on the couch, his sly smirk never faltering, “And we're alone too.”
I rolled my eyes before laughing, “You're so much like Jay right now.” Did I make the wrong choice thinking that he won't bother me if Jake was here?
He slightly moved his head, “I've figured out that you enjoy being around people who tease you like this.”
I pursed my lips and sat right opposite him, folding my arms, “You've got it wrong, Mr Sim. It's actually people who are confident about and being themselves.”
“Oh?” He sighed, “Well, then. I guess I should better stop.”
I giggled, “How did you know Jay used to tease me like that?”
“I've known him for a long time. I know it when he's around someone who he likes.”

Emma had left to answer the door to get the food they had ordered. Jake watched her every movements as she walked off, slightly getting aroused and irked by the fact that he wasn't already devouring her.
It was a perfect timing for him as they were alone and he clearly knew that he wanted her. But there was something stopping him. She doesn't have a clue that I am one of the people she despises the most. Even if I did it, I would have to kill her after it at once.
His sanity continued to drop when she came back with their food. “You really don't have to— are you okay?” She asked when she noticed how strange Jake was acting.
“Can you please excuse me?” He excused himself and walked into the bathroom in a rush.
Is he feeling unwell? Emma was visibly worried after seeing him like that. She wanted to make sure he didn't collapse inside there but that would just make her regret her decisions later. She sat down, placing down the food on the table and quietly waited for him to return.
Jake's heart raced while he was attempting to keep himself sane. She'll hate me if she knows. He thought to himself as his mind was arguing with his body. She also wants to find clues about Youngjae. I could just explain myself and go for it, just this once.
He winced and shook his head vigorously, whispering, “I can't.” I can.
