A familiar looking man walked in, followed by a lady who seemed to be his wife. I believed I had seen that man, either in my dreams or long before I had common sense.
“Dad,” Jake addressed him and let go of me, just for him to grab me again by my hand so that I wouldn't run off.
His father silently judged us from head to toe before smiling, “So, you decided to take my words literally.”
Jake chuckled, “I did, but there's one problem.”
His mother then widened her eyes, “Did you kidnap her or something?”
“No— dad,” Jake turned to his father, asking for a hand through his eyes.
“Okay, Emma, why don't you sit down?” His father spoke. How does he know my name when I don't know his?
I hesitantly sat down on the couch opposite to him while Jake stood behind the couch I was sitting on with his arms folded.
“You don't remember me, do you?” He started and I shook my head, keeping my mouth shut.
He chuckled, “I don't blame you, it has been around thirteen years since we first met,” he paused, “Halloween...you were five years old, dressed as a princess.” How the heck does he know that?
“Maybe this will help?” He suddenly grinned, his sharp canines visible and his eyes slowly turning yellow. I immediately gasped and covered my mouth as I was instantly taken back in 2008.
“Human blood?”
“It's the only thing that keeps them alive and sane.”
“Are they real though?”
“You wish they weren't,” he mumbled.
“Dad!” A young boy came running.
“Jake~ I told you to stay with your mom.”
“Mom said that she wanted to go back now.”
“Oh, is that so? Let's go then. See you later, Princess.”
“Now you know it's not just a coincidence,” he spoke, bringing me back to reality, “This was meant to happen, don't you think so?”
I reluctantly nodded, still busy processing my thoughts after recalling vivid memories of him. He merely smiled, “The moment I laid my eyes on you, I knew that you were going to end up here some day.”
“I also saw that in Youngjae and look where she is now,” he laughed and leaned back on the couch, “I thought I mistook you for her when I saw Youngjae for the first time, which was why I kept on pushing Jake to be friends with her.”
“You can imagine how dumbfounded I was when I heard about her and Heeseung. I thought that the connections I felt from other people were useless, until the day Jake came calling me in desperation and mentioned you.”
“I suspected it at first but thinking back to the day I saw you and what you've grown to be interested in, there were no more doubts. I'm thankful, greatly. He would've only had a year left to live if it weren't for you.”
I furrowed my brows and turned around to look at Jake when it eventually snapped in my head and everything came together. It felt as if I was under a spell and I was forced to believe that everything that was happening was meant to happen in a snap of the fingers. I firmly believed I was going on the right path.
“It's not necessary to turn now. You can take as much as time you want. We'll be looking forward to see you again,” Jake's mother spoke with a smile and for a brief moment, everything looked and felt fake.
