"Ah well," Noah starts off as Louis and I walk out of the store with him after going gift shopping for our Dad, "He'll for sure love my gift for him." He comments, referring to the 'Book of Dad Jokes Everyone Needs to Hear' he got.

I playfully roll my eyes. "Yeah you know what Noah? It's my turn to put gum in your hair while you're sleeping if he starts telling the cringey jokes to us everytime we're in his sight."

We all laugh and put everything away in the boot of the car before going back to the house.

Earlier, before we left the house, Dad told us he wasn't going to be home since he had to go to "work".
"In the afternoon?" I asked, he replied with "Yup, sorry kid. I'll see you later." And headed out the door with a smile.

Hopefully he'll be back for when we do the cake.

Oh, shoot. Oh no. The cake.

"Uh- guys?" I gulped, realizing what we forgot to do. Louis and Noah turn their heads at me, looking at me as if I'm ill. "We didn't get a cake."

"Oh, that's what we forgot..." Noah mutters to himself. "I knew we were missing something. But we're already home." He points out the window, stating the fact that we're parked in front of the house.

"That's okay, we can drop off what we have and go back to get one." Louis plans.

Noah and I nod, agreeing.

The second I step out of the car, I notice a small, black toyota parked in front of us without anybody inside. It was so clean and brand new that it literally glowed in the sunlight, like the owner just got it out of the car wash. Whose car could that be?

I shrug it off and go off to help the guys get everything out of the car. When unlocking the door, I see a woman with shoulder length dirty-blonde hair standing in the kitchen, drinking a glass of iced tea.

That couldn't be... that's- that's Maya. What on earth is she doing here?

"M- Maya?" I stutter, approaching her and dropping the bags on the kitchen counter. "What are you doing here?" I ask, letting out a fainted laugh.

"A beloved daughter slash sister can't come to visit her family? Wow, how cruel." She speaks with her teasing voice, then laughs. "Hello to you too." She continues, wrapping me in a hug.

I immediately hug her back, smiling. "I have so many questions."

"I'm listening."

"When and how did you get here?"

"Hmm, got here about an hour ago... drove all the way here from New York in my car, it was a long 3 hour drive." She half grins. "At least I got to listen to more of my oldies music with all the traffic going on."

I smile back at her and nod, staying silent.

She sighs. "I came for Dad's birthday, dummy!" She exclaims.

"Okay- First of all, I was waiting for you to say that, so don't call me 'dummy.'" I roll my eyes, nudging her in the shoulder.

Looking over my shoulder, I see Louis and Noah standing by the couch, speechless, with eyes full of confusion and relief.

They were as quiet as mice, I didn't even realize they were there this whole time!

"Hi there Mop." Maya approaches him and pats Noah on the shoulder before giving him a side hug. He gives her a smile and puts his bags on the counter along with mine.
