Pride was shocked at what he came home to. Mikayla laid in her bed strapped to a ventilator. His brothers looked as though they had aged a decade each. They were all so tired and so weak.
His brothers were all asleep on makeshifts cots around her bed. It looked as though she had needed round the clock care for some days. He got so worked up that he forgot hours in heaven or hell were days on Earth. He moved to sit beside her and sighed.
"I failed you, Princess. I failed you and I'm so fucking sorry." Pride cried out as he broke down. He felt a soft touch and saw that her frail and pale hand was on his. She used her other hand to claw at the ventilator apparatus on her face.
"Hold on, Princess. I'll remove it." Pride waved his hand and the machine was gone, but Mikayla began coughing. "What are you doing? She needs that!" Envy called out but Mikayla shook her head.
She settled down and had the attention of all her men. They looked so different. Still as handsome as ever, but tired and it was her fault. "This is not your fault, Mikayla. Don't you ever think that." Wrath spoke up. "Thank you." Mikayla croaked out. "Thank you for loving me...for fighting for us." Pride caressed her hand before wiping his eyes.
"I need you to make me some promises." Greed groaned. "We're not fucking doing this, Mikayla. We're going to figure something out. Stop trying to be so damn depressing like it's a fucking Lifetime movie." She knew he was hurting and lashing out, but just like Envy, Pride, Lust or Gluttony when he said her real name it just felt off.
"Promise me you'll be there for one another. I know you did a decent enough job before ever meeting me, but loss changes people and I don't want it to change you guys. Promise me."
They all nodded except Greed. "Promise me that you'll look after my parents. This is going to devastate them and I just need to know that they'll be okay. I don't want them to want for anything, please. Promise me."
Again, they all nodded except Greed. "Promise me they'll pay." They looked at her and saw a fire in her eyes that gave them hope. "Make the virtues suffer. Make your grandfather wish he hadn't been passive with his assistance. Make me proud." They each gave her a soft small smile before promising.
"What about your promise to us, huh? You promised you'd be with us forever. Eternity, Mikayla! That's what you fucking said and now what?! We're just supposed to be okay with losing you?! You're our fucking soulmate, Mikayla! Our fucking soulmate!" Greed cried out before breaking down in front of them. Lust pulled his brother into a rough hug before whispering something to him.
Mikayla couldn't take how this was tearing her husbands apart. "Can I talk to Pride alone?" Mikayla said softly and they nodded. She watched as they shuffled out and sighed. "Hey Princess," Pride tried to smile. "Hi my love. I want you to know I'm so very proud of you." He smiled at her and looked down.
"I can tell. I'm somehow feeding from you." She chuckled at him. "I love you so much, Petey. You have made the last few months the happiest. I don't know where I would be right now if it weren't for a dreary day and a jampacked café."
Pride laughed for the first time in days as he remembered their meeting. "Fate got it right. Their plans were just fucked with." Mikayla said with a smile. "Take care of them for me, please. They'll need you." He nodded his head. "Kiss." Mikayla puckered causing him to laugh before leaning down. They shared a kiss so potent and true.
Mikayla kissed him as though it were the first time and Pride kissed her as though it were his last. They finally pulled apart with their heads resting on the other. "Who do you want next?" Mikayla giggled that he was on to her plan. "We're going in birth order." She replied with a smile and a quick peck that lasted longer.
