I didn't approve of what I was doing. I felt like I was signing a death sentence. I had contemplated and wracked my brain of all the possible pro's and con's. Now, I had come to a conclusion--well, I hoped. MY stomach felt like butterflies were eating away at it.

"You can do this!"

Could I?

I shook my head and ran a hand through my hair. I am crazy, I must be. Only an insane person would do what I'm going to do.

Please forgive me, mum.

I knocked and waited nervously for an answer. "Enter." His voice was smooth and soft but I was still frightened out of my mind, more of my choice than of him. Here goes nothing. I pushed opened the door and slipped inside.

His hair was twisted into a low ponytail to keep it out of his eyes. He was dressed fairly casual for a King and it surprised me to see him wearing jeans and a dress shirt. Richard looked up through his lashes. The air grew cold and all I wanted to do was back away slowly from the dangerous creature.

"Hayley? I didn't expect to see you here."

"Neither did I," I muttered. He obviously heard me but took no notice. I tried to say something but my lips were frozen shut and I couldn't think straight.

"Do you need something?"

I swallowed. "I...I-I want to tell you something." He motioned for me to approach and sit in one of the very comfy looking leather chairs but I was too statue-like to move. "I'll agree to become a vampire and marry Vincent...willingly but under one condition."

Ricahrd's brow rose questioningly. If I was in his place I wouldn't know what to expect either. He rose and straightened his already neat shirt. "What is the condition?"

"That my mother is allowed to know that I'm...we're a vampire."

"No."

"Then I will not marry Vincent."

"You can't reject the offer. I am King, I can control anyone."

"Then you'll have to nod my head at 'I do' because I am not fucking saying them willingly now." There goes a simple discussion.

He frowned and stalked around the desk. "IF that is what it takes..."

"Why can't you just say yes?" I yelled. "I've had to sacrifice everything, why can't you just grant me this?"

"I can't potentially destroy my Kingdom for a silly girl who misses her mother."

"But she won't tell anyone! Trust me, Richard," I struggled through his name, "She can't lose another child. It would destroy her."

Richard didn't say anything and I felt my heart break. "I will give anything. Please." I sobbed into the sleeve of my jacket feeling embarrassed and destroyed.

"I'll say yes-" I almost collapsed with relief. "-but under my conditions."

Aw shit.

"You will mate with Vincent after the Ball which will be moved to tomorrow night. Your mother will be killed if she breaks the contract of secrecy, and you will marry Vincent and love him with all your human heart even after it stops beating."

I closed my eyes and focused on keeping myself standing. That is, itr's all over now.

"I agree to your terms."

Richard smiled. "I'm glad we could figure this out. I'll inform my wife but I advise you to stay out of her way."I forced a polite smile on my face and left.
