CHAPTER TWO!
My eyebrows rose up and my eyes widened. Was this some joke or did he really want my number?
"Um, I don't think so, I don't even know your name," I said sadly. I wanted to go out with him but I didn't know a single thing about him. He could be a psycho or a monster or even a murderer.
"Well my name is Vincent, and I know your name already, so can I have your number now?" he said cheerfully. Surely this was a dare or prank, he didn't like me, but nobody did.
"How do you know my name?"
"You introduced yourself before taking my order," he said with a humored smile. I mentally slapped myself. Of course I did, it was the rules. I felt so embarrassed. How stupid could I get?
"Well, I still can't go out with you, I have no time for boyfriends, I'm struggling to make time for my friends." I said to him. I could make time for him but it would be difficult so I wasn't completely lying.
"Oh, ok. Call me if you want to go out sometime," Vincent said handing over a folded piece of paper. He had this prepared. He either wanted to go out with me since he walked in or he was asking out random girls all morning. I took the paper and shoved it into my jeans pocket. I smiled a goodbye and walked behind the counter.
Mark had gone back to his wife again and I was pretty sure he would be back soon. My shift had finished five minutes ago. I untied my apron and folded it into the draw. I waved to Mr. Pierce and grabbed my coat and beanie off the hook. I walked outside and was hit by another blast of freezing wind. I pulled on my jacket and beanie and zipped it all the way to my neck. A storm had picked up and the air was swirling with snow. Everything was so white I could hardly see where I was going. Thank god I had walked this path so many times I could do it blind folded. I walked from the café into the storm. The temperature had dropped again and my nose and face were numb. I shoved my hands into my pockets and clenched them into tight fists.
I could feel cold water seeping into my flats. Now I wished I had worn my boots like everyone else but the storm wasn't meant to hit till 4pm when I would be safe and warm at home. My hair blew around my face and I pinned it under my beanie. I continued walking in a hulk, head down and back slumped trying to make the wind flow over me, not to push me back. I turned around the corner and saw a black shape run in front of me with impossible speed.
I froze in my tracks and stood up straight. My eyes widened as fear clouded my mind. No one would be out here, it was too dangerous. Kids wouldn't be allowed out because of fear of being hit by a car and adults didn't because they couldn't drive on the roads. As I told you before I didn't necessarily listen to the rules. "W-who's there?" I stuttered into the wind. My voice wouldn't have been carried very far. All was quiet and the shape didn't come back. I started to quicken my walk back to my house. Maybe it was a stray cat or dog. But the shape had been a lot wider and taller than a large dog. Something was very wrong here. Finally I could see the outline of my house. I rushed up to the front door and searched my coat for my keys. Shit! I left them with my purse at the café. I stomped my foot childishly and snow piled off my shoulders and onto the welcome mat. I would have to get it later. There wasn't anything really valuable in there anyway. Only my keys, my very old phone and a couple of bucks. And the purse wasn't even worth a lot. I knocked loudly on the door. No one answered after a minute of waiting. I suddenly felt some one's eyes on me. I turned around slowly looking both ways, straining my eyes past the white. Nothing and that brought even more panic. I knocked again hurting my knuckles not daring to look away from the white behind me. The door opened and I saw Vincent standing there."Vincent!" I cried out taking a step back. "What the fuck are you doing at my house?" I didn't mean to swear but it sort of came out.
