Hey!

----------------

"I'll be ten minutes." I buzzed inside my room and went straight to my bathroom. Luckily I picked up the small wet packets from outside the hall. I rubbed my body with the greasy towels and showered wincing at the water pressure. My skin was covered in little red dots, aggravated and tender. I washed my body gently and then turned on the cold water to cool down my skin.

I dabbed myself dry and changed into some cotton underwear and a bra. I slipped on a loose shirt and some soft, baggy track pants. I wanted my skin to breathe as much as it could. I pulled my hair up into a bun and brushed my teeth. I felt weird, and strangely excited.

Was I excited for the wedding?

No, that can't be it, that's crazy.

I shook the thought away and left the room. Vincent was waiting outside leaning against the wall and biting on his thumb nail. "Are you nervous?"

"No," Vincent laughed but I knew he was joking. "Okay, maybe a bit. I just don't know how you're going to react."

"React to what?"

"What I'm going to show you."

"So what are you going to show me?" Now I was getting nervous. "Will I like it?"

"That's what I'm worried about." He grasped my hand and rose it to his lips. "I'm afraid of how you'll react."

"So it's a surprise?" My heart was beating fast but it was because Vincent was concerned for my feelings. It made me feel so special, even after everything that's happened, even after all the fighting and confusion he still cared.

"Kind of. It was meant for...um...our wedding...night."

The feeling disappeared. I dropped my hand and narrowed my eyes in suspicious. "I don't think I like this surprise anymore."

"Don't freak out. I just wanted that night to be special for both of us. The wedding isn't exactly planned so I tried to make it as...as much of a romantic experience as I could."

"You knew we weren't going to win."

"I know my father." His eyes were saddened, his body slumped and embarrassed. "I didn't know how quickly it was going to be sprung on and now the engagement ball is tomorrow and I had to act fast. Hayley...your life was taken away and it's all my fault. I just wanted you to be happy, at least for a second, I just wanted to make you happy."

I kissed him. "I am happy. I'm happy I'm with you, Vince. Your dad couldn't take that away from me."

"So you want to see my surprise."

"I thought you said it wasn't a surprise?"

"It depends how you react."

He pulled me to the other end of the mansion, passing rooms I had never even seen before until we stopped in front of one. A mahogany door stood before us, its hinges pure gold and gold leaf designs weaved themselves through the wood. I didn't know whether to be amazed or annoyed at how easily vampires wasted gold on doors.

Vincent placed his palm on the handle. "Close your eyes."

"It can't be that much of a surprise."

Vincent sighed and frowned. "Just do it."

I closed my eyes and was led inside of a dark room. The light switched on and I opened my eyes. It was beautiful I had to admit but it made me sad. A huge, huge bed sat against the back wall surrounded my beautiful, colourful unlit tea lights. The curtains were thick and the colour of sunrise. Silver and gold paint weaved themselves over the walls. It really was amazing and I loved it.
