Choosing the Path

It was early in the morning when you found yourself in the goat pen, feeding the goats and making sure they had enough clean water to get them through the day.

As always, Lil Bleater was the first to greet you when you approached the gate. As soon as you walked in, she was rubbing up against you, probably hoping to butter you up for the best food before you place it in the trough for the other goats.

Once that was done, you went to the stables to check on the horses and shovel out the stalls. You examined Scorpion's head, inspecting the abscess he's been having near his jaw. So far it's been healing nicely. A few more treatments of that special ointment Vesemir had made and it should clear up soon. You check on Midnight and Roach next and see everything was normal with those two.
You made sure Midnight's blankets were secure and warm, as the gelding wasn't used to living in this kind of weather. Actually having had Midnight living at the ranch for almost a decade, he's probably only seen two, maybe three snowfalls in his life.

By the time you were done, you bump into Geralt, "Oh, hi Geralt," you greet, feeling a little confused, "I thought you and Lambert went ice fishing an hour ago." "I could only handle Lambert for so long," Geralt admits. You notice he had some linens in his hands, "What's that for?" you ask. Geralt hands you the linens, "I have a feeling you'll be need these later in the week," he tells you. You frown as he turns to leave, wondering what on Earth was he talking about.

-------------------

It had been almost two months since you fell into that cave back home and landed in this world, not knowing how to get back. You tried to find that cave again, retracing your steps back to where you first came but you couldn't find the cave. You went back multiple times, either asking Geralt, Lambert, or Eskel to help you out.
Each time, all three witchers had agreed to come with you, each having confidence that there own tracking skills would help you retrace your steps.
But surprisingly to them, they couldn't. No matter how many times either of them went back and forth, they were not able to help you find the cave.

You wanted to go back home, knowing your aunt and uncle were definitely worried about you and had probably called the police already to come look for you.
The witchers had been discussing amongst each other, and had developed several working theories about how you ended up here in the first place.

Vesemir was of the belief that you may have created a portal on your own as you may have Elder Blood, much like Ciri. Geralt, though, wasn't completely convinced of that, knowing that Ciri was the only descendant of Lara Dorren, or the only one that they know of (as Vesemir pointed out). One other theory was that maybe you just wondered around your property and, by chance, came upon a portal that appeared at random in that cave. Though this didn't explain why you never saw that cave before nor did it explain why you or the other witchers couldn't find it again out in the mountains.
Regardless of whichever theory was actually correct, you still needed to find a way home. And even though the Aen Elle sage Avallac'h wasn't here to help locate any possible gateways this side of Kaedwen that could bring you back to Texas, there were still several other options you had, but they would have to be put on hold as winter was nearly here.

The first snowfall would be happening soon, based on the gathering clouds, and after that, the weather would definitely not be suitable for travel.

So, having no other options, you decided to stay in Kaer Morhen with the witchers for the time being.
It wasn't so bad, except for the fact that Kaer Morhen had turned into one huge icebox the moment the temperatures had dropped and the snow started to fall. Last time you ever actually snow must've been maybe three or four years ago when it snowed all night and then was gone by afternoon the very next day.
You were not used to seeing snow last longer than a day and you were certainly not used to this type of cold.
Vesemir was kind enough to loan you old winter garments along with gloves and snow boots, which helped a little, but you still found yourself spending most of the days and evenings huddled by the hearth in the main area of the keep (Lambert may have joined you on several occasions by the fire, he's not a fan of the cold either).
