finally talking

Ashley

The one main thing that people know about me is that I have a lot of pride.

And I'm also really petty.

So when I told my parents I was going out to lunch to talk with Aidan, they were shocked.

I put on a really nice outfit, just to show that I wanted nothing to do with him, and just to show off.

There goes my pride again.

As I walked to the coffee shop, I felt my throat closing up in fear.

I saw that I was early, which I took as an opportunity to get myself a coffee.

I got an iced vanilla latte, and while I quietly sipped it, watching a show on my phone, I saw someone sit in front of me.

"Hi.", Aidan said.

"Hey.", I replied.

"H-how are you?", he asked, looking nervous.

"Better. You?", I replied.

"I'm okay, thanks.", he smiled a little, probably to ease the tension.

We sat there in silence.

"So, how was your birthday?", I asked.

"It was alright. What about yours?", he replied.

"Right back at you."

There was still a very uncomfortable feeling, but luckily for me, he broke it.

"Listen Ashley, I'm so sor-"

I stopped him right there.

"You're gonna tell me you're 'so sorry', aren't you? Are you really so sorry though, Aidan?", I asked.

"Or are you 'so sorry' that I caught you? Let's be honest, you're not really sorry. You're sorry that I caught you in the act, and now the whole school hates you."

"I never meant to hurt you.", he replied.

"If you didn't mean to, why did you?", I cocked my head to the side a little.

"I knew you were more than me. You deserved better. And I went the wrong way about it. And I swear, I am so sorry. I'll do anything to make it up to you.", he sighed.

"But I still loved you. We talked everyday, we had something real. Why didn't you say anything?", my voice cracked a little as I held back a cry.

"I didn't want to break your heart even more. But I guess I did anyway."

"I know you're hurting, Ley. I truly am sorry. That's why I bought you this.", he pulled out a box from out of his pocket.

He handed it to me.

It was a gold, diamond promise ring.

"I was gonna talk with you and Tiler to explain everything, and then I was going to promise to stay faithful to you. But you don't have to take me back.", I could see the pain in his eyes.

I looked around, happy to know that it was only us in the cafe.

I walked up to him as we shared the tightest hug ever.

I knew it was wrong, but this felt right.

"I swore on my life, I'd never hurt you again.", he said, as I let out a small sob.

"I forgive you. Somewhat. Can we take this slow?", I asked, pulling away as he wiped a tear from my eye.

"Of course, Ley.", he replied, as he wiped his thumb under my eye lightly.
