move in was saturday, today's monday. i spent sunday finishing up my move in. after seeing ash's room, i hoped mine wasn't too plain. i made a note to buy christmas lights. the only decorations i had were a few posters, a lamp, and stuffed animals. not exactly an hgtv production.
i spent the morning wandering campus. it wasn't a pressing matter as i had time to get familiar with the buildings before classes started, pretty much the sole reason why freshman move in a week early. but getting a feel of the campus was just relaxing. it had been a long time since air had smelled so clean. no humidity either. my hair looked great and my skin was already clearing up. leaving the city for a tree-populated town was so quickly doing wonders. no traffic noise, no oil stains, no dad, no stress.
as i was making my way back to my dorm, i spotted a bench tucked away behind flower bushes. purple hydrangeas transporting the bench into a fairytale realm of peaceful quiet. i would definitely be revisiting this spot. back home, a spot like this only existed in that nonexistent fairytale realm.
"y/n!" a voice called from a distance. i looked around, no one.
"Y/N!!!! oh god ..." the voice got closer and was out of shape. i mean, breath.
"ash, im so sorry! did you ... run all the way over here?" i looked up at the direction she came from. the business building was so far from here.
"maybe ... next time you can call after me .... and it'll be ... even." hunched over with her hands on her knees she panted between her words.
i laughed, "i'll write that down. what are you doing today?"
"nothing. that's why i had to catch you before you ran off again!" she smiled, "do you wanna hang out, maybeeee?"
i smiled back. "oh for sure, i almost just went back to my room and wasted the day away."
i did end up going back to my room but ash came with me, so there was no waste of this day at all! except, neither of us had a car. options were limited.
"i mean, maybe we could go get lunch." ash laid on my bed with her chin in her hands.
i made a sad face, "had lunch already..."
"ugghhhhh. me too!" she buried her face into arms but quickly rose again with a sly smile, "wanna get tattoos?!"
i couldn't hold in my laughter. "ash! i mean, eventually! but it's only my third day of college, my parents would kill me."
"i do stick and poke if money is an issue."
"i can't believe no car = tattoos!"
she groaned and lowered herself into her arms again.
"i know someone who has a car," she said muffled. "do you wanna meet larry?"
