Nya's discovery of the ancient Fangpyre skeleton intrigued us all, each of us reacting in our own way. Zane, ever the analytical mind, was diligently jotting down notes, his metallic fingers moving deftly across the parchment. Kai, less interested in the history lesson, showed signs of restlessness, his eyes wandering. Cole, always the artist, began sketching, capturing the moment with his own unique flair.

I couldn't resist joining in the drawing session, nudging Cole's attention towards me. With a playful grin, I quickly sketched a scene of us in combat, passing the paper over to him. His response was typical Cole — he added his touch, which turned out to be a humorous yet somewhat alarming twist: me depicted under a boulder, his mischievous humor evident.

I chuckled at his creativity, shaking my head at the unexpected turn in the artwork. Cole's ability to inject humor into any situation was always a welcome break from our adventures, even when it involved me being crushed by a fictional boulder.

As Nya continued explaining her research findings, her voice low and focused, the ancient Fangpyre skeleton commanded our attention. I noticed Cole's stoic demeanor, his expression unreadable as he listened intently.

During a lull in Nya's explanation, I leaned in closer to Cole, keeping my voice barely above a whisper to maintain the quiet reverence of the moment.

"Crushed by a boulder, huh? Is that your way of saying you think I'm tough enough to handle anything?" I murmured, a hint of teasing in my tone.

Cole's gaze softened at my teasing words, his lips twitching slightly with a hint of amusement. He glanced sideways at me, his voice barely audible as he replied in a low whisper, "Maybe I just think you look good under pressure." His tone carried a subtle warmth, revealing a depth of sentiment beneath his usual stoic demeanor.

I couldn't help but grin at his response, feeling a surge of affection mixed with the thrill of their whispered exchange amidst the solemnity of the ancient Fangpyre skeleton. "Well, I guess I'll have to thank you for the compliment later," I whispered back, playfully nudging his arm with mine.

Cole's eyes met mine, a flicker of something deeper passing between us before he shifted his attention back to Nya, his expression once again composed.

As Nya delved deeper into her findings, describing the intricate details of the Fangpyre venom's potential applications, I found myself stealing glances at Cole. Despite his focused demeanor, I sensed a subtle shift in his aura, as if the playful banter between us had sparked something.

During another pause in Nya's explanation, Cole's hand casually brushed against mine, a fleeting touch that sent a jolt of warmth through me. His eyes briefly met mine, holding a silent conversation of their own, before he withdrew his hand, his expression returning to its usual calm exterior.

I leaned closer again, my voice barely audible, tinged with curiosity and a hint of mischief. "You know, teasing aside, I appreciate how you always manage to keep things light, even in the midst of ancient mysteries and venomous serpentine."

Cole's lips quirked up in a half-smile, his voice barely a murmur as he replied, "Gotta balance out the seriousness somehow, right?" His gaze lingered on mine for a moment longer than necessary, conveying a depth of understanding that transcended mere words.

As the discussion continued, I felt Cole's foot gently brush against mine under the table, a subtle and playful gesture that caught me off guard. Suppressing a smile, I shifted slightly, subtly returning the gesture, our feet now lightly entwined in a silent game of footsie.
