Kaz and Inej watched as Alina laughed with Fedyor, Marie and Adeline.

They discussed the plan, the lynx flush, Arken's betrayal, General Zlatan, the double Sun Summoner and lastly what they would do next.

As Fedyor and Nadia departed arm in arm the Crows decided to go in.

"Now"

"Miss Starkov! We are to escort you to dinner. Could you come with us, please?", Kaz spoke.

"I thought, um... Actually, I am quite hungry", Alina spoke.

"It sounds so funny when people try to politely address you Lina", Ada laughed and gripped Alina's hand.

They had not walked far before the General approached holding a bouquet of blue irises in hand.

"Thank you. I'll take her from here", the General took Alina's arm.

"For you", he handed the irises.

"Scum", Ada muttered as the pair walked off. Kaz raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"Well if you wouldn't mind taking me to my room I've got a lot to get off my mind. Zoya, Ezra and whatever the hell that scene was there", Ada spoke bitterly. "I feel like bleaching my eyes", she muttered.

"Of course Miss Starkov", Kaz nodded. Inej looked wide eyed at the sound of Ezra's name but Kaz shook his head. It had to be a coincidence. The sister of a Sun Summoner would not know some member of the Dregs' brother.

"All right. Plan B", whispered Kaz before spotting the male Inferni searching for them. "Scratch that. Plan F. Stay on the target and meet me at the escape route", Kaz whispered as he followed Adeline.

"What about her", Inej whispered gesturing to Adeline in front of them who was staring at Zoya wistfully.

"She might come in helpful", Kaz returned.

"He's an Inferni. Don't take chances", Inej whispered.

"The general must have been overjoyed when you told him precisely where to find the Stag", the soldier told Ezra and Mal as she led them into the grounds.

"Not yet", Mal muttered.

"So he doesn't yet know?"

"Where are you taking us?", questioned Mal.

"Exactly where you need to go"

"This doesn't seem right", Ezra whispered as they entered a cave like room.

The soldier struck both boys on the back, sending Ezra tumbling to the base of the stairs  and Mal quickly followed after a brief fight. In the corner of the cave lay Tofin's body.

"Tofin", croaked Mal.

"Shit", muttered Ezra.

Mal leaped up and began to punch the soldier, fighting with all his might. Ezra wounded on the floor, picked up a fire poker and tossed it at Mal. The tracker pushed the solider to the wall, pointing the poker at her. A quick familiar movement of fingers ensued and the poker began to bend backwards until suddenly a force fought against it and the poker returned to normal.

Ezra's hands weaved through the air as he used the power he detested so much. Mal realising the opportunity, struck the soldier on the head and when Era tossed him a wooden stake, Mal stabbed the Grisha in the side. With finality, Ezra grabbed the poker of his creation and struck her round the head, ensuring silence.

The pair didn't look back as they rushed from the cave, craving the cool night air and memories of no blood and anguish.
