They had to take him off the ventilator
The doctor took him and handed him to Hailey and Jay
H=how long will it be before he dies
Doctor=well it usually takes a few hours after taken off the ventilator so we let the parents hold him until he stops breathing to give them some time in the final hours
J=thank you again for everything
H=yeah we really appreciate it
Doctor=I want you to know I did everything I could for your little boy and it hurts me to know I failed. I'm going to give you some alone time with him
The doctor walked out
They both looked at their baby
Hailey was holding him in her arms and J was sitting beside Hailey with his arms wrapped her
H=I hope we made the right decision
J=it was our only decision
She started crying
H=we never even got to name him
J=well he's going to have to have a tombstone so we are going to have to name him
H=I know I just can't believe he's dying
J=how are we going to tell Jesse this
H=I don't know, how long do you think it'll take for Noah to die
J=who's Noah?
H=I think that name fits him. Do you like it?
J=yeah I do

H=how long did you say this is going to take I can't stand to see him like this
Doctor=I don't know he was supposed to only live a few hours
J=so what does this mean
Doctor=he might take a little longer
H=but he's breathing fine he even has been looking up at me
Doctor=I'm shocked
J=so does that mean he has a chance
Doctor=I don't want to get your hopes up
J=but... does he have a chance
Doctor=I've never seen a baby in his condition act like he is acting
H=what the hell does that mean
Doctor=I doubt that he will live but there might possibly be a chance
H="oh my God did you hear that babe our baby might live"she said happily
J="yeah I did" he said smiling
Doctor=please don't get your hopes up
J=it's too late for that
The doctor left the room
H=I can't believe it
J=I know but maybe we should listen to the doctor and not get our hopes up
H=you're right but I can't help it, you wanna hold him
J=sure
He held his son for the first time and kissed his forehead
J=" I love you buddy so much just hang in there for me okay"he said holding back tears and his voice was cracking
She rubbed his back
H=you have been so strong for me this whole time but you don't need to be anymore it's time for me to be strong for you
He busted out crying
H="it's okay we got each other"she said with a tear rolling down her face
1 day later
Doctor=okay so we have ran some tests on him since he hasn't died yet
H=he seems pretty alive to me
J=yeah he's looking around now and I think taking him off the ventilator is what saved him
Doctor=well I have good news for you both
H=we haven't had that in a while
Doctor=it seems the swelling on his brain has reduced a lot and is completely back to normal
J=are you serious
Doctor=yep and his breathing is back to normal so he most likely will live, we would like to keep him a few more days just to make sure
H=oh my God this is crazy
J=how that even possible
Doctor=I've been working this job for over 20 years and I've never believed in miracles but seeing this has made me believe
A few days later
Today was the day they got to take Noah home
Doctor=alright he's ready to go
They put him in his carrier
J=you ready to go home buddy
H=I bet he is, I know I am
Doctor=I'm really glad that this worked out like it did I've never seen anything like this
H=thank you for everything you've done
J=yeah man you've been a massive help
Doctor=just doing my job
They walked downstairs
Front desk lady=okay so you just need to sign your names to this paper then you will be good to go
They signed their signature and put the baby in his car seat and got in the car
H=I can't wait for Sophia and Jesse to see him
J=I can't either they are gonna love him
They arrived at and walked in the front door with Noah
J=hey we're home
Jesse=daddy!!
J=shh! You got to be quiet your little brother is sleeping
Jesse=that's my little brother!
H=yes it is
Hank came in holding Sophia
Sophia=dada, mama
H=hey baby look at your little brother
Hank=he's adorable I am so glad he's home
J=thanks again for keeping them here
Hank=it's no problem,I'm going to home now but I'll see y'all later
He put Sophia on the ground and she crawled to Jay
H,J=bye
Hank=bye
Jesse=bye Hank!
Hank=bye bud
H=I'm going to go lay Noah down in his bassinet
J=okay babe
Jesse=I'm so glad he's home
J=I am to, what about you Soph you happy he's home?
Sophia smiled and laughed at him
Later that night
They were all in the living room
Jesse=can I hold Noah
H=I don't know he's really you g but he ways a little bit more than Sophia did
Jesse=please I just turned 8
H=yes but sit on the sofa

She put the baby in his lap
H=now make sure you put your arm under his head
Jesse=I will, I love him he's so cute
J=he loves you too
Sophia stood up and started to walk
J=she's walking!
H=oh my gosh
J=come on baby you can do it
She walked slowly over to her dad
J=you did it!
He put her in his lap on the couch
H=how about we watch a movie before we go to bed
Jesse=okay
They sat on the sofa and watched a movie all snuggled up to each other under a blanket.
