Prompt: Where everything doesn't always work out for Hailey Zoe Jackson - AU
⚠️Trigger: Death⚠️
Third-person pov.Hailey Jackson had what many people would call the perfect life, she was a beautiful girl, green eyes, black hair and perfectly tanned skin, she might not be the smartest but she was the sweetest, she always wore the most beautiful clothes and her hair was always neat, all the boys loved her.
Her mother was an architect, her sister was at Harvard, her middle brother was still in school, and her mother was anxiously awaiting the birth of her next child, who would arrive in six weeks.
What could a girl like this lack?
Her father.
Hailey was the eldest daughter, from the first second of her life her father had been her hero, her best friend.
In these last months her father began to have health problems. He became confused easily, was always tired, and had more and more difficulty breathing.
Will, his uncle and family doctor, had said that it was due to a tumor in his lung that was cutting off his oxygen, affecting the way his brain worked.
Within two months, the family had gone into self-destruction, her mother was becoming more and more desperate, the baby in her belly more and more at risk, her siblings were becoming more and more loose, aimless, bewildered.
The house had taken on a sad air, the joy of home was no longer there.
Percy Jackson, Hailey's father, always drove her to work in the morning, he was always the first person she called when she got good news, he was her companion, her best friend, her father.
And then he forgot her.
She walked into his hospital room with the same old flowers and a joke to tell, but he didn't smile at her this time, he frowned and asked if she was a nurse.
She swallowed dryly, faking a smile. "No Dad. I-I'm Hailey, your daughter, remember?"
He denied with his head. "Hailey? I don't know her."
She sighed. "Well, I brought you flowers." She placed them on the corner table and turned to leave.
She stopped at the door. "I love you, Daddy." She looked at the man in front of her, no remnant of the man he once was.
A few days passed, she went to the hospital every day, talked to him, tried to at least, he almost never answered.
One day she arrived and found her family in the corridor.
Her mother was kneeling on the floor, her back against the wall, she was crying.
Her sister and brother were yelling at Will and two other doctors.
Her grandma and grandpa were crying next to her Aunt Estelle.
"Mom?"
She didn't answer, nor did she indicate that she had heard her daughter.
Will helped her to her feet, she couldn't bear to lose her husband and son all at once, they had to take triple care of her.
"Theo?"
Her younger brother looked up at her, eyes overflowing with tears. "Hi Hailey."
"Allie?"
Her sister just spread her arms, not even commenting on how she hated the nickname.
"Excuse me." A doctor interrupted the sisters' embrace, "Which one of you is..." He looked at something on the clipboard. "Hailey Jackson?"
Hailey straightened her posture, drying her eyes with her hands. "That's me."
"Your father wants to see you. He asked to talk to you before we turned off the devices."
She looked at her brothers, took a deep breath, and nodded.
The doctor led her into the room, her father had taken a turn for the worse, he was pale and impossibly thin. "Hi Hailey." His voice sounded weak and hoarse.
"Hi Daddy, you wanted to see me?"
He nodded. "You always come to see me, I thought it was only fair to talk to you again."
She nodded, holding up one of his hands. "Sure. Is there anything you need?"
He denied. "I have things to talk about, you know? But I don't remember everything."
She nodded. "Go ahead, I'll help you if you want."
"Good." He began. "I have a wife, I wanted you to tell her that I love her very much."
"Sure."
"I have three children, Alice, Theo and Hailey. You remind me a lot of her, you know? She's still young. I want you to tell them that they are the light of my days."
She lowered her head, letting a few tears escape. "Don't worry, I will."
He nodded, his expression pained. "I want them to know that even after I am gone, I will still help them." He blinked slowly. "Can you tell them that, dear?"
She nodded.
"I'll miss the flowers and the jokes, you're good at them."
Hailey laughed. "You taught me."
"Hm... Good to know."
Her father looked so confused, he was too young for that.
"Dad, I-"
"Miss Jackson, we need you to leave the room." The doctor interrupted her.
"Come here honey." Will called out, opening his arms.
She blinked, taking a deep breath.
At least her father's pain was going to end.
She looked at him one last time, kissed his forehead, lightly caressing his face. "I love you, Daddy. Can you wait for me? I don't know if I can find Elisium by myself."
He nodded. "Sure, I'll wait for you there."
She hugged him. "Thank you for everything. I love you."
He blinked. "I love you too."
"Hailey." Will called out.
She stood up and stepped into her uncle's tight embrace, allowing herself to be pulled away from the room to join her siblings.
"Bye, my little Hailey."AN - I bawled like a baby while writing this because my grandma has alzheimer and I was one the first people she forgot, and she had a special hate for me. She's alive still, but our bond is gone.
If anyone's going through this, feel free to message me, there's always someone to help.
Take care.
Love you guys.
