"What happened..." Yeosang sucked in a breath as he stepped out of the vehicle, Seonghwa following close behind as the girl stayed back. They have been tracking the Surge for a few days, until only recently they lost them out of the blue.
"Isn't obvious." Seonghwa whispered. The town they came across was quiet. Too quiet.
But the moment Yeosang and Seonghwa got closer to the town, the smell of rotting flesh filled their nostrils. "Oh god." Yeosang muttered and pulled the neck gaiter up to block out the smell.
Seonghwa also pulled his mask up, along with grabbing the gun that was sitting away at his side.
Yeosang pulled his rifle that was swung over his shoulder, holding up as the two partners made their way through the burned down town. Along the streets, bodies littered the ground, and the once gray cement turned into a blood red. The roads became rivers full of it.
Walking down the lanes, Yeosang made sure to step where the blood wasn't. He glanced at the bodies, some still having an identity while others were impossible to see.
"It's never been this bad before." Seonghwa whispered. He felt like he had too due to all the dead souls that lied around him.
"I don't understand," Yeosang said. He came to a stop when he accidentally stepped on someone's hand. He looked down to see a young brunette girl who had a bullet hole in between her eyes. "they never go back to towns they have already destroyed, so why now?"
Seonghwa sighed, running a hand over his face. "We should go back. No one here is alive, so we have no witnesses to talk to."
Yeosang nodded, glancing down at the girl one last time before following Seonghwa back to the car.
"My sister made it for me."
San was now turned fully to Yunho with his legs crossed on the bed. His hands were in his lap and his head was hanging down slightly.
Yunho stared at the younger. He let his eyes travel over his features. The way his mouth would twitch a little whenever he was about to say something. The way his fingers crossed and uncrossed as he was thinking. His muscles would flex subconsciously, and his tongue would lick his lips every two minutes. Yunho could tell he was nervous about it.
"Yuri. Her name was Yuri."
San paused for a moment before taking in a deep breath.
"She gave me- she made me this bracelet for my birthday. It was a reminder of our promise that we made when we were kids. She told me to promise her that no matter what or where we are, I will always dance with her. There was this group of teenagers that would gather on the street every Friday night and would just dance." San swallows the lump in his throat. "I took her every night and I danced with her, because I knew she had a problem staying still and dancing seemed to be the best thing for her. When she gave me this bracelet she told me it was a good reminder of our promise. Then the next day the Surge showed up..."
San hadn't noticed the tears that were running down his cheeks until he felt a thumb brush them away. San was used to the action since he had cried to Yunho before.
"She was calling out to me." He hiccuped. "They dragged her away and I couldn't do anything. I was pinned down by two of their soldiers, Yuri was being taken away and my parents got bullets in their heads." San was now sobbing, letting out the emotions that he was holding onto. "Her screams were fading and when I couldn't see her anymore, I heard the gun go off and she stopped... and since then I blame myself for not keeping her promise."
