As I finish curling my hair and fluffing it out I look down at my phone and see a text from Peter. I see it was sent a few minutes ago, but I decide not to read it or even acknowledge it. I'm still distracting myself from him. I don't even know what I would say to him. I turn and see Felicia in my doorway. Shes wearing her hair down with a scarf wrapped as a headband, some straight leg torn jeans, and a tiny cropped black tank top with a moon on it. She looks like a college student. I smile widely and throw my phone in my pocket. "You look great," I say. She looks down at my outfit which is a pair of black skinny jeans and a oversized AC/DC t-shirt. My hair is curled and relaxed. The party was casual so we both seemed to fit that criteria.
"So do you girl," she says with a smile. She gestures her head to say let's go and I nod.
We walk to the frat and the party is happening. We do a lap and Felicia finds us some drinks. I don't feel like drinking but I'm happy Felicia is. She needs a normal night, honestly I'd say we both do. If I made her go out and be normal I should try and do the same. My mind drifts to Peter. I figure that since Felicia isn't out maybe he isn't either. I sigh and find myself staring at Felicia dancing with some girl. They are getting close and end up kissing. I smirk a bit. Something nice about Felicia is that Everytime she did steal someone from me she always had a quick turn around so I wouldn't stay mad at her. Even though she has no idea that her and Peter kissed. I sigh and swirl my drink around in the cup and take a drink. When I look up I see a familiar face. I squint to make sure I'm seeing things correctly and sure enough Peter is walking towards Felicia. Felicia stops dancing with the girl and I feel my hearing drown out the music. "Is Stella here?" He asks her. She nods and points towards me. He glances over and leans into her ear. "You wanna go talk somewhere?" He asks her. She shakes her head.
"Not tonight Peter. Stella and I are on a strict human experience tonight," Felicia explains. She sounds a bit tipsy but she's not completely drunk. She's probably taking it easy since we just got here ten minutes ago. "You should try it too," she says swaying to the music. He gives her a confused look. "If you did I'd be more willing to talk to you," she says with a sly smile. I look back down at my drink and chug the rest of it. I know I won't feel anything but I can still hope. I look back up at them and Felicia is going for Peter's hand. "Come on Peter. Be a Super Human tonight won't you?" She asks. He lets go of her hand and steps back.
"I gotta talk to Stella," he says. Felicia pouts but nods as he starts walking over to the couch I'm sitting on. I start to get up to get another drink but I feel his hand stop me as I go to walk past him. "Stella please talk to me," he says lightly. The music is loud but he knows I can't hear anything but him. My arm tingles from where his hand is. I wince a little as a feel my arm begin to sting where his scars were.
"I told you I needed time," I say loudly so he'll hear me. "Also I'm on a break from you tonight. For Felicia," I add. He lets go as I start going to the kitchen to get more jungle juice. He follows me though.
"Why are you here Stella?" He asks.
"Why are you here?" I ask getting more mad and turning to look at him. The other people in the kitchen step out giving a 'woah' look when I raise my voice.
"I'm here to talk to you. I hate this, I don't want to fight anymore," he says. "I'm so tired of fighting."
"Don't you fight for a living?" I ask him walking away not wanting to talk to him anymore. He once again follows me. I pretend I'm going to the dance floor to dance with Felicia but he grabs me again, flipping me around to face him and we hit our chests together.
"I just want to stop fighting you. I came to clear the air." Suddenly Mr. Brightside comes on, which is one of my favorite songs so it's hard for me to keep focus. I start unknowingly bobbing my head to the music as Peter talks. "Stella? Are you even listening to me?" He asks. I blink as I hear his voice come through. He sighs. "You wanna dance?" He asks. I feel my face get hot and look around. Then my senses come back as I look back at him.
"No Peter I don't. I think you should leave," I say pushing past him and going outside for some air. I find a seat near the pool and see a lot of couples out here kissing. I sigh and look down at my drink and throw it into the pool. I turn to the side and see Peter standing a little further away from me. "Why can't you get the hint?" I ask him.
"Cause your thoughts are telling me the opposite of your mouth," he says putting his hands in his pockets. He's dressed normal today. He has a stupid graphic tee on with jeans, and the bomber jacket he worn to that other party. He looks nice. "Thank you," he says.
"Stop reading my mind," I say.
"I told you I can't always help it. You're loud," he says sitting next to me. I move over to make more space for him. Why did I move?
"Look Peter I don't want to talk about," I pause and make sure no one can hear us.
"So we won't," he says looking over at me.
"Did you finish the homework for math 204?" He asks. I furrow my eyebrows as I look over at him. "I know some of the work was more difficult this week, I finished mine at the beginning of the semester but I just wanted to be sure you-
"I'm not a moron Peter. I finished it a week ago," I say. He smiles a bit as I turn away from him.
"You've always been smart. Even before you had your powers," he says. I look back at him. "You remember the science fair freshman year? When you built that working robot dog," he asks. I nod.
"Yeah my dad helped me with it. You made some sort of volcano right?"
"That's all I had time for. Ned did most of the work. I was just starting as Spider-Man back then. Not a single person knew. It was kind of nice," he said. "I was just doing little things around Queens," he smiles a bit as he reminisces. He blinks and shakes his head. "Anyway, I was so impressed with that robot dog that I sat and listened to your presentation so I could learn the technology for Spider-Man tech," he says laughing a bit.
"Robot dog was easy to make. Just simple coding," I say not looking at him anymore.
"Coding you could understand without any superpowers. Just human brain activity. That's amazing to me. You've always been amazing to me," he says lightly. I lose my smile and look over at him.
"I didn't know you thought anything of me until I got my powers?" I question.
"Stella we went to the same school since second grade. All the guys were obsessed with you when you first moved to Queens," Peter explains. I roll my eyes.
"That lasted like a week. It's not like I was that pretty and I was dorky."
"I always thought you were pretty," he says.
"Can we stop," I say turning away from him again.
"Stop what?"
" Reminiscing about things that don't matter."
"Okay," he says lightly. We sit in silence for a minute as I watch a couple make out in the pool. "What do people do at parties? I've only been to a few and they end up causing issues," he says. I shrug.
"Well for awhile all I did was party so I guess I could show you the ropes," I say standing up. "Come on Peter Parker," I say offering my hand to help him up. "I'll teach you partying ways," I say with a smile. Maybe we can just go back to the way we were.
