After rest hour, it was time to finish the events. After everyone versed each other, it was down to the last two cabins. Deer Beach and Cedar Mound.
"Well well well." Gabby said, tauntingly.
"Don't push it." Antonio told her.
"Oh shut up. I'll push you down that hill over there."
He rolled his eyes at her and stood over next to Matt. About halfway into the soccer game, it started getting dark and cloudy.
"Forecast says it's supposed to be a pretty heavy thunderstorm, so hopefully we can finish soon!" Matt yelled loud enough so everyone can hear.
As Gabby went to kick the winning goal for her cabin, it started down pouring and she slipped. She landed on her arm and screamed out in agony. Everyone came rushing over to her.
"Are you okay?!" Kim yelled in a panic.
"I think my arm is broken!" She started crying and asked for her brother. Antonio brought her to the nurse's trailer. She was sitting at her desk organizing camper medical files. Kim ran in with them.
"Mr. Dawson. What's wrong?" That was when she noticed Gabby in his arms, her face red and puffy.
"I think she broke her arm...I don't know what to do." He had never looked so scared.
"Don't worry, I will make sure she gets to the hospital. Did your parents sign a consent form for her to receive hospital care?"
"I think so."
She rushed through the files until she found Gabby's. "Alright, it says she is allowed to receive medical care, but they are to be called when she gets to the hospital."
"Can I go too?" Kim asked.
He looked down at Gabby and with her good arm, she grabbed Kim's hand. "Please let her come with us."
The rest of that afternoon, due to the severity of the weather, everyone had to stay inside their cabins for safety purposes. Antonio, Gabby and Kim finally returned shortly before dinner. He headed back to his cabin, but made sure Gabby was okay first. Kim helped her inside and into her bed. Everyone gathered around her.
"What happened?" Laura asked.
"Are you okay?" Erin asked right after Laura.
"Girls, let's let her rest. She's had a rough afternoon." Ms. Lopez said. "If there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask me or Ms. Danforth. Okay?"
"Oh I'm fine, I have a broken arm that's broken in two places and fractured in three others, but I'm just dandy." She laughed.
It was still raining when dinner time arrived, so the girls had to wear their rain coats and boots. Leslie and Kim offered to help Gabby, to make sure she didn't fall again. Due to helping her, neither of them could take their umbrellas.
"Hey! Wait up!" A boy's voice yelled behind them. It was Adam. He held his coat over the girls as they walked so they wouldn't get anymore wet than they already were.
"Thanks, we appreciate it." Kim smiled at him.
He smiled back. "No problem."
After dinner, everyone helped clean the mess hall by sweeping, taking out the trash and put the dishes in the soap filled sink.
"We're going to the rec hall to do arts and crafts, listen to music and things like that. If you guys want, or we could all just head back to the cabin and hang out there. What ever you guys want to do."
"Does this mean we can hang out with people from other cabins?" Kim asked.
"I don't see why not. As long as you're back here by nine." Ms. Danforth told her.
"Got it!" She hopped off the porch and ran to Adam's cabin. He was inside all alone.
"Hey you." She said, walking in the cabin.
"Oh hey." He looked up from tying his shoes.
"What are you up to?"
"Not much. How about you?"
"Nothing really. Everyone else in my cabin is headed up to the rec hall for fun night, I didn't really feel like it."
"Same here. It didn't seem all that interesting to me."
"Want to go sit down by the pond and listen to the sound of the woods?"
"Sure." He said, putting a sweatshirt on and offering her one of his.
"Oh no, I have my own, thank you though."
"Oh really? Then where is it?"
She looked down and realized it wasn't tied around her waist like she usually has it.
"Whoops." They both laughed and she took the one he handed her and put it on. They walked down the path that lead to the pond. Kim was just standing there, looking out at the pond when he grabbed her hand. She had felt it, but didn't make a sudden move because she didn't want him knowing. Then he looked over at her.
"I never told you this. But I think you're really pretty."
"Oh stop. No I'm not."
"Yes you are."
"If you think the book nerd is pretty, I think you need to have your eyes checked." She went to turn away.
"I've been picked on my whole life. I've been told that I would never do anything in life. I told people I wanted to be a cop and they just laughed at me. You never did."
"I want to do the same thing. I think it's cool that you want to do that."
"What made you want to be a cop?" He asked her.
"Well, I like the idea of helping people and keeping them safe. My daddy also works as an officer back in Chicago. It's kind of like carrying on the family business I guess."
"My dad's a cop in Chicago too!"
"Where in the city?"
"He works for the thirty first district. What about your dad?"
"The twenty first."
"That is so cool."
Leslie, Erin and the other girls were hiding in the bushes.
"Gabby, shush. They'll hear us!" Leslie whispered.
"It's not my fault it hurts when I move my arm!" She whispered back.
"Both of you shut up or they'll hear us!" Laura whispered to both of them.
"This is adorable." Erin laughed to herself.
"I said shut up!" Leslie loudly whispered, hitting Erin.
"What? It is."
Kim looked back because she heard a noise.
"What is it?" Adam asked.
"Nothing, I thought I heard a noise, guess not." She looked up at him and he was staring into her eyes. He leaned closer to her face and kissed her.
