Summer flew by faster than the speed of light, at least that's what it felt like to Kim. Everyone had a glum or solemn look on their face as they took down the posters, the necklaces and everything else they had put up throughout the summer. Tears fell from the cheeks as everyone was packing up their stuff. Leslie was sitting on top of one of the bin holders and she was looking out the window. She could be heard sniffling, which meant she was either crying or had been crying. Kim climbed up next to her.

"What's wrong?"

"It's just that...I can't believe summer's already over. You guys really made it the best one I've ever had. I'm really going to miss you guys." Kim wrapped her arms around her in a hug as she cried.

"Don't worry, we'll see each other again. Aren't you coming back next summer?"

"I want to. Are you?"

"Are you kidding me? Of course I am! I hated the idea of camp at first, but as long as all of you are coming back, I will be. You guys are the best friends a girl could ever have."

There was thousands upon thousands of tears shed and hugs given as the buses and parents arrived. Leslie's parents showed up at noon that day. She looked back at everyone in her cabin and they all had a big group hug.

"I'll miss you guys so much. Please keep in touch." She said, wiping tears away. They all took one last group picture before she got into her mother's car. She put her hand up against the window and they all waved goodbye to her.

"Hey Gabby, let's go!" Antonio motioned for her to come over to his car.

Kim lived a little farther away then everyone in her cabin did, so she was the last one in her cabin left. Adam came over to her.

"Summer's really over, huh?" He said as he sulked down into one of the adirondack chairs.

"It really is." She said, adjusting the bracelets the girls had made for her over the summer.

"That really sucks. I was just starting to like it here."

"Same."

"It was really nice getting to know you, though. I'm sorry for being a jerk in the beginning."

"That's okay."

She gave him a hug. "You really are a great friend. Are you coming back next summer?"

"Man I wish I could."

"You're not?"

"Dad got a job in Detroit, so we have to move there."

"Oh man, that does suck. I'm happy for your dad though."

"I'm trying to get excited about it." He laughed.

In the middle of the conversation, a car horn was honking and he could hear his name being called.

"I have to go now...that's my parents."

She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes because she didn't want to say goodbye to him. She had been dreading this all summer.

"Please keep in touch?" She hoped.

"Of course. I'll call you as soon as I get home."

"You promise?"

"I promise." He said as they linked pinkies. "No matter what happens, we'll always be friends."

He gave her a hug as he picked up his daypack and headed to his parents' car. Ms. Lopez and Ms. Danforth were talking in front of the mess hall. Kim walked over to them.

"I'll miss you guys. You really made this the best summer ever."

"We'll miss you too. You liked camp after all?" They smiled.

"I really did. I never thought I would. I met some really great friends here."

"These are the friendships that will last a lifetime. Trust me. These are the friends that will always be there for you no matter what happens."

A half hour later, her mother pulled in. Both counselors helped her load her stuff into her mom's van before giving her hugs goodbye. Her mother gave her a big hug.

"I missed you so so so much, baby girl. Did you have fun?"

"Yes! I loved it! Can I please come back next year?!" She said, excitedly. Her mother laughed.

"Of course you can. I'm glad you had fun. At least I got my money's worth." Her mother joked as she pulled onto the main highway.

"I met a boy too."

"You WHAT? What's his name? Was he cute?"

"MOM!"

"What's his name?"

"Adam. Yeah he was pretty cute, he was a jerk at first though. But yeah, he was cute."

"Do I smell a future boyfriend?" Her mother looked at her in the mirror.

"MOM! I'm ten!"

When she got home, her father picked her up in a hug.

"I missed my little princess." He said as he kissed her head. "How was camp?"

"It was great daddy! I really really really want to go back next year! Please?! Can I?! Please?!"

"As long as your mother is okay with it, I don't see why not." He asked, looking up at his wife.

"She only wants to go back so she can see Adam again." Her mother said as she was bringing stuff inside.

"MOM! Shut up!"

"Who's Adam?" Her father asked, looking down at her.

"No one you need to worry about." Kim smiled and quickly swiped her diary from the backseat, so he wouldn't be able to read it. She collapsed on her bed and opened the diary. She took the pen out that was in the binding.

"Dear Diary,

It's been a while. I just want to say that this summer was the best summer of my life and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I met a lot of great friends and I hope I get to see them again. Leslie was my partner in crime, Sylvie was my shadow, Erin was my butt kicker, Laura was the mother figure and Gabby was my spirit animal. I'll never forget the memories we've made. Here's to holding up my promise of seeing them again someday.

-Kim."
