She turned away in a huff of anger. He grabbed her shoulders and turned her right back around. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to say anything because I honestly thought you'd be angry."
"Why would I be angry at you for being pregnant?"
"Work's been stressful lately and I didn't want to add to that."
"Kim, you being pregnant wouldn't have affected my work at all. In fact, it makes me really happy. Do you know how thrilled the kids will be?"
"Brayden maybe, but I'm not so sure about Hannah."
"Why?"
"She's a daddy's girl, Adam. If I have a girl, she's going to flip out. I don't think she'll want to share her daddy."
"I've noticed that."
"She's just protective of you. When you go to work, she'll sit there and cry until you come home. She hates going to school because she can't be with you."
"Is this the normal daddy's girl attachment?"
"I think it's worse, that's how I see it anyway."
He was confused. "Clarification needed here."
"You know the TV show COPS?"
"I used to watch that all the time as a kid."
"If I turn it on, she'll throw the world's biggest fit. She will scream her head off and cry."
"Do you want me to talk to her later?"
"That's up to you."
"I will."
"Brayden's a big mama's boy, but it's the normal attachment. He's stubborn like me, but he doesn't freak when I leave the room."
"Wow, Kim finally admits she's stubborn."
"If you EVER say that again, I will chop off the protruding parts of your body."
He moved a ways away from her. "Yes ma'am."
"Am I your mother?!"
"No."
"Then don't call me 'ma'am. It makes me feel like an old lady."
Hannah came running over. "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" She hollered as she was running over.
"What is it, princess?"
"It's time for our dance! Let's go!" She said as she tugged on his sleeve.
He picked her up and they met up with Mikayla and Jay on the dance floor. Erin was talking to the superintendent and Kim joined them.
"Your girls are doing exceptionally well in their classes. Although, Mikayla does tend to talk a bit more than she should."
Erin laughed. "It's something that should've been expected."
After the superintendent left, they were allowed to talk about something else.
"What are you gonna do about the Bunny situation?"
"I got a restraining order. After that stupid stunt she pulled, I'm done. She treated me like crap as a child, and wondered why I ran away. I was not dealing with her anymore."
"I don't blame you."
"I just wish I got to know my real mother before she died."
"What did you say?"
Erin didn't realized what she said, then acted like nothing was ever said.
"You can trust me. We're friends."
"I said no such thing. We should change the subject."
"Bunny's not your real mother?"
"Drop it."

The kids fell asleep on the way home.
"Kim, are you sick or something? You seem tense and nervous."
"I kind of heard something that I wasn't supposed to hear."
"What was it?"
"I don't know if Erin realizes she said it, but I heard it and I'm not sure what to think."
"What did she tell you?"
"Her and I were talking about Bunny. Then she said something about wishing she got to know her real mother before she died."
"Bunny is her real mother."
"I guess Hank and Bunny were friends in school. When Erin's real mother died, she was given to Bunny. I don't know the whole story."
"Then who was her real mother?"
"I don't know and it's not my place to ask. Maybe you should talk to her about it."
"Talk to her? I can barely get that woman to say two words to me."
"Why don't you ask Hank about it? Maybe he knew Erin's real mother."
"That was thirty two years ago, do you think he'll want to dig that far back?"
"You never know what he'll say."
"I don't want him to get angry and go off on me."
"He's not going to do that."
"You don't know that."
"Yes I do. It doesn't hurt to ask."
"I hope he doesn't punch my face in for asking."
She laughed. "He's never done that to someone."

The next morning, they were both at the convenience store. Hannah called them and made sure they were still coming, While they were waiting in line, Kim glanced across the street. There was a van backing up into a warehouse, and some guys unlocked the trunk. They were lifting out boxes that looked really heavy. She thought nothing of it until the stuff was being unloaded from the boxes. It looked like illegal weapons of some sort. She set the snacks on the counter, drew her gun and went running.
"What is that woman doing?!" Adam set the stuff he was holding on a display case and followed her.
She leaned up against the side entrance and tried listening to their conversation. He caught up with her.
"What the hell are you doing?! Don't you remember what happened last time you did something like this?!"
"That was years ago."
"Let's go and let patrol deal with this."
"I don't want Sean to do this or that temp for Leslie. Her temp is a psycho."
"That's not the point. We need to get out of here before we're caught."
"I'm not going anywhere. Now if you're not going to be helpful, shut up and stand guard. Got it?"
"You almost got killed last time. I thought I was going to lose you. I don't want that to happen. Ever."
"Do you think anyone else is going to want to deal with these pricks? I think not."
"I know that."
"I'm gonna call for backup." She said, lifting her walkie talkie off her belt.
"I don't think that will be happening." A man said, the door swinging open and he was aiming a gun at them.
