"Two for all seventh-year books, please." Rory said, giving a list of school books. She turned down the volume of her Walkman now.
She looked around, gazing at the books on the tall shelves. She can hear lots of people talking and laughing. Books flew above her.
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy by QUEEN is playing right now on her walkman. Rory really likes Muggle songs.
She really loves Freddie Mercury. Rest in love to his beautiful soul.
"Here you go, miss. Anything else?" He said, Rory open her purse and take out the money. "Oh, and a copy of A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, please." She added, Before the worker left, she spoke again.
"Oh wait, umm, is there a book called The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath here?" The worker furrowed his brows, "What?" Hearing the response from him, that explained that he didn't know what it was.
"Alright, just one history of magic then." She said. "Alright, wait a minute." He storms out to get the book.
That's silly of her to think that there would be any Muggle books here. She can't get any muggle books around here, and that irritates Rory a bit.
It didn't take long for the worker to come with the book. She turned off the song and handed him the money while trying to tidy up the books.
She put down her walkman and placed it on top of the books. He thanked her and then sped off, leaving her carrying this pile of books.
She had just taken a step forward, and saw her walkman sliding down. When she was about to fix it, she felt herself bumping into someone—the walkman fell to the floor along with the books that were out of her hands.
"These stupid things are going to be the death of me!" Rory hurried to pick them up, and a set of hands flew out to help her.
She stood and saw a man, older than her, around mid-thirties or early thirties, with brown hair and his amber eyes. Rory noticed that he was wearing a shabby robe and there's a long set of scars on half of his face.
"Thank you... and also sorry." She said, arranging the books in her hand, and finally the man handling Rory's walkman.
"What is this?" He asked, pointing to her walkman, "Oh, it's a walkman." She answered. The man chuckled, "Sorry, I meant, what kind is this?" She was a bit surprised because not many wizards know about muggle things.
"It's a Sony WM-D6C Walkman Pro." She looked at him. This man is freaking handsome, she thought, with his scars making him look sexy. "You have a walkman too?" She now asked
"No, not myself, but a dear friend of mine used to have it." The man replied, "Exactly like yours." He added.
"Excuse me, Mr. Lupin." An employee who interrupted, "Here's the book that you're looking for," He was handling Mr. Lupin a kind of large purple book.
"Ah, yes, thank you." He took the book from the man's hand, politely.
"Potions, I see." Rory said. Lupin smiled.
"Yes, I want to look into a handy one that I've been working on." He said with a smile. He does smiles a lot, Rory thought.
"For science, I assume?" Rory smiled back. He chuckled and nodded. "Exactly, science." he answered. "I noticed that you brought the History of Magic with you earlier." Lupin changed the subject.
"Oh yes! I'm doing some research for my class." She said, "It's better than potions," she added.
Lupin laughed. For some reason, his voice brought a sense of comfort to Rory. It's like she wanted to keep hearing his laugh. Even though she just met this man,
"But, I prefer defense against the dark arts myself." She said.
"I do too," he smiled.
We made eye contact for a while until suddenly Percy appeared outside the shop, waved his hand, and she saw him roll his eyes.
"Oh, well, I should get going now. Apparently my annoyed cousin is waiting for—" Rory hasn't had time to speak. Her walkman is sliding down, almost hitting the ground if it's not Mr. Lupin who caught it.
"—Me." "I swear I'm not this sloppy." She said to Lupin, who smiled as he handled Rory's walkman back to her.
"You know, there's a spell for that." He pointed at the pile of books she was carrying, "Not too good at charms myself, Probably gonna burn somebody's robe again." She joked. Lupin laughed a little, as he was wondering if she was joking or being serious.
"Alright, here." He chuckled. He pointed his wand at the pile of books, and they soared out of her hands and then floated above her. When she stepped forward a little, they immediately followed.
"Thank you..." She grinned as she felt amused, "Again." She added, laughing a little.
Lupin smiled and held out a hand to Rory. "Remus," he said kindly. And now that her hands are free, she shakes his hand gently with a smile that is still longing on her lips.
"Rory..." She suddenly remembered what Uncle Arthur and Aunt Molly had said to her. She's had to use her mother's surname for a while now, and it's for her own safety.
Apparently, because of a killer who coincidentally has the same last name as Rory, has escaped from Azkaban.
"... Prewett." She added, "Well, Remus is really nice to meet you. But, I really have to go now because my cousin looks really mad right now." She said, smiling again, as he smiled back. "So do I, Rory. Hope to see you again." And with that, she walked away from that freaking hot stranger man she had just met, while she sneaking glances behind her.
As Rory came out of the shop, Percy chimed in, "It took you long enough for me to grow a mustache."
"Shut up, Perce. I'm having my moment in there." She said, "What moment? Talking to someone that might be an old perv who's been watching you?" He said.
"What did you say?" Rory furrowed her brows. Did Remus have been watching her?
"By the way, he is not some fucking old perv. In fact, he's been helping me with these shitty things when you're just wandering around in—only Merlin's and Salazar's know where!" She added, without sounding too mad, but not too nice either.
"I'm not wandering around, I'm buying the rest of our stuff!" He said.
Percy rolled his eyes, "Whatever, Rory. Come along now, the others are waiting at the Leaky Cauldron." He added.
"Well, not with that attitude!" Rory folded her arms.
"With what now?" Percy stepped forward, pretending not to hear Rory, "THAT. ATTITUDE." She repeated it with her hands leaning forward.
Percy rolled his eyes one more time and walked away, leaving Rory there.
"What a wanker."
