Chapter nine

A week had passed since their last kiss.Tommy,while working with Ruth would take glances at her sometimes.Ruth came at his office in the parliament building too.

While she was on the way,she eyed a man from the corner of her eye.He had a moustache and wore a rather clean suit with slicked black hair and piercing eyes

Oswald Mosley

He looked at her locking eyes with her.While she gave him an ignorant stare with her eyes,he kept staring at her with fascination,like the greedy eyes of a man when he sees a rich beauty

She didn't mention anything to Tommy.She kept it straight.There was no need for her to mention this mysterious man because she was well capable of finding out about him

"The Charleston race is Tomorrow Tommy.I hope your horse is ready"she said her voice lingering with surety that he would win

"Yes.She's ready"

"You've got a lot on your plate.The race,then the ballet party"

"Well it would be a celebration of my victory at the party.Why else would I put it on the date right after the races?"

Touché

"Whose the enemy at land?"she smirked.Tommy sighed leaning back on his seat.She really knew his worries

"A horse named Versailles"

"Owner?"

"I don't think you know him"

"I wouldn't but I could"Tommy's words were stolen by her again.She played smart

"Oswald Mosley.Minister of the duchy of Lancaster"

"And yet he's involved in a 'purely criminal' bet race?"She chuckled.Tommy rolled his eyes at her comment

"He's not that clean himself love.Plus it's not exactly criminal.The race is legal"

"Very well"she smiled getting up from her seat,taking her leave.Tommy's words were in his throat again yet he didn't hesitate to speak them

"I want you to come to the race with me family"Ruth stopped at the door turning back to him looking at him not sure she heard him right

"What?"she asked walking a few steps closer to him.Tommy stood up from his seat and walked to her closing the gap between slowly and steadily

"I want you to come to the races with my family.With me"Ruth shook her head in disbelief

"I'm not family Thomas"she huffed.Tommy licked his lips a little and looked in her eyes

"I can change that"

She looked at him with her mouth slightly opened.Her lips parted by the shock of the words he said.

He used to say many things like this.He was a straightforward man.So not to point out on what he said she simply let it go and nodded

"Fine.I'll see to it"

The day had come

The town bustled with people shouting and chattering in excitement.The Shelby betting den was filled with chaos and people all placing their money to Tommy's horse.

All betting dens all around the country were busy.Tommy and his family all sat in two separate cars.

Ada shelby the youngest sister was also here for the big day,even if she despised the races,she came for her family and her brother.

Tommy,Polly,Arthur,Ada,Aberama gold and his men,Isiah,Uncle Charlie,Johnny dogs,the whole family was there

While Tommy drove to the race,instead of thinking about wether his horse would win..he still thought about Ruth and wether she would come
