Chapter Four

Caleb

"I think the supernatural is a catch-all for everything we don't understand about the vast other parts of life that we cannot perceive."

(William Shatner.)

As I approached the new guy I couldn't help but to notice many similarities between the both of us; we were about the same height, though I was taller by an inch or two, our skin was both pale, where his hair was wavy and brown, mine was dark, straight and always kept short. I was more muscular where he was more sinewy, his eyes were hazel and mine were green, when our eyes locked I felt a surge of power running through my veins and body.

The feeling was both terrorizing and thrilling at the same time, this surely being what junkies felt when they injected another dose into their blood stream. I didn't want it to continue but I didn't want it to stop. I waited for him to avert his gaze, but like me he was in a hypnotic trance.

We both stood there in the hallway surrounded by many other students yet to me it felt like only he and I existed. Everything else paled in comparison to this weird connection I was experiencing with this complete stranger.

I felt a boil in my blood, why I wasn't sure, it was the sensation that something was awakening inside of me, something that should have been awake long ago. I walked past him; the moment we had shared went by unnoticed by all the spectators present.

The tardy bell had rung almost two minutes ago, English was my first class. I rushed inside the still open door; there before me were only two vacant seats. One was at the back of the class, normally I would have taken that seat in a heartbeat, and the other vacancy was closer to the front.

The open seat at the front of class was a seat or two away from the direct sight of the teacher, I wanted a chance to meet this kid and ask him if we had ever met before. I would do anything to remove this guy from my head. No attraction was present, I felt more as if someone important I had been deprived of.

I stood there by the door with the entire class staring at me waiting for me to take a seat, the new guy was staring my way as well. Seconds slowly began feeling like hours, every eye was on me and having so many eyes on me made me nervous for the first time in my life. I turned; I could deal with this class tomorrow.

Right now I couldn't be in there and to my luck I bumped into the teacher who then dropped what was in her hands. Ms. Lathame was short, chubby and had red hair that just passed her shoulders. She smirked at me and bent down to retrieve what I had knocked out of her hands. She stood there waiting for me to take my seat when I didn't her smirk became a dark scowl that darkened her soft features.

"Mr. Farrington, will you be joining us today? If your reputation does indeed precede you, I wish you the best and have a good day." the scowl upon the teachers round, chubby face was enough to sit me down.

I went and walked to the seat by the new kid; I slumped into the hard, cold chair and refused to look his way. Instead I stared at the desk which had many engravings and peculiar stains upon it. This desk, as all others were, was too small for me, I had enough room to wiggle in but that was it I felt trapped and contained in this and all desks.

"Is the guy next to you a family member or something?" a girl with brunette hair asked me. "He looks like you."

I shook my head and she turned away, paying attention for roll call. I raised my hand when my name was called, my silent answer got me a disappointed grin from Ms. Lathame who shook her head and went back to calling the names on the attendance sheet. Our student-teacher relationship was going to be a tenuous and tedious one, the thought of us getting along made me snort.
