Chapter Fifteen

Caleb

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

(From a headstone in Ireland.)

I stumbled to the left as another vampire launched itself at me, I swung my sword and heard the thump of a head rolling away from me. From behind I was tackled and we both fell to the linoleum floor where I rolled away and brought my sword down and through the unfortunate vampire’s cranium. I removed it and beheaded the creature; I went to a corner to gather some strength and to rest.

From where I stood, the entire cafeteria was in my complete view; Alena was facing off against two vampires at once managing to twirl away when it appeared she had been captured. She kicked one dead in the chest while at the same time managing to punch the other vampire in the face, they both stumbled back snarling in fury.

They came at her from both sides, Alena back bended and the vampires ran past her, she stood and kicked one in the back of the head while the other stared in disbelief. While the other vampire stared in fear, Alena managed to land a combination of multiple punches and kicks on the other vampire who fell to the floor writhing in agony. The onlooker charged and was gifted with a quick jab in the throat; he stumbled back and was knocked flat on his back due to a palm jab that hit him in the chest.

With the sharp blades that were on the heels of her high heeled shoes, she beheaded the fallen vampire while the other vampire ran at her from behind. Alena turned performing a round house kick that cleanly removed the head from the body in one swift movement; the beheaded vampire fell and vanished. I lost sight of Alena as she jumped into the throng of vampires and humans fighting recklessly.

I looked around and saw Calvin fighting a vampire. He launched tables and chairs at the monster that dodged them with its super human speed. The vampire, unaware of Calvin’s ability, launched itself at him and was sent spiraling thorough the air with a flick of Calvin’s wrist. The vampire stood from the floor and charged at Calvin, again it was pushed on the floor where Calvin held the beast and sliced of its head with the katana. The long, thin sword reflected the light as it was brought down repeatedly, beheading vampire after vampire. Calvin sliced and launched, kicked and punched he was slaughtering the vampires like a complete professional.

Having rested enough, I rejoined the battle but as I stepped forward I noticed Erin standing upon the stage, her hands were tied behind her back where there stood a vampire with shoulder length dark hair and a goatee. I charged forward and faced the wave of vampires that came my way, the first I stabbed in the middle of the eyes then sliced off her head which rolled away. The second punched me in the nose, the blood flowed freely coating me in warm red liquid, I managed to head butt him.

As he stumbled back I removed his head and watched him crumple to the floor. From my front, back, left and right vampires came from; they had surrounded me without me having noticed. As they edged closer I fell to one knee. As they all reached greedily towards me I rose amazingly fast and spun in a circle, the thuds as the heads fell made me smile. I stood only to be tackled from behind, I turned and put my sword through a mouth as it was being brought down on my neck, then using all my strength I pulled my sword upward and nearly gagged as the vampires head split in two opposite directions.

As I made my way through the densely composed throng of humans and vampires, I handicapped as many vampires as I possibly could making it easier for the humans who were defending themselves, I removed legs and chopped off arms. I was near the stage when out of nowhere a vampire stepped in front of me and kicked me in the face which sent me crashing down to the cold, blood stained floor.
