Chapter Three
Calvin
"Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them."
( Dalai Lama.)
Every step he made towards me made me want to go under the floor to hide from him. When he was just some inches away from me, his green eyes made contact with my hazel eyes and I felt electricity traveling all through my body as if all the molecules and cells were traveling and growing at an alarming speed.
Knowing it was unnatural, it became unnerving to harbor this feeling or attempt to explain such a weird sensation. Our eyes were locked for at least thirty seconds until he passed by me and kept walking to the end of the hall. Something was attracting me to him, but it was not love at first sight or anything to do with love. It was a force I could not describe yet, but a force that would most definitely scare me if I ever managed to figure it out.
In addition, something was odd about the way he looked at me. I could only describe him as if I was looking at my reflection in a mirror. Though he happened to be two inches taller, his hair was a straight and naturally black, with a different texture and his eyes were a shade of green I had never seen before. As for his skin color, it was as pale as mine, but his body had a more muscular than mine. You could have put us side by side, back to back, and face to face and people could easily mistake us for twins. Logical thinking only made me sound crazy. The only brother I had was not my twin and he right now stood miles away somewhere at a university in England studying.
‘Calvin get your acts straight and just concentrate for the rest of the school day’, I repeated to myself over and over again. My attempts were feeble; I knew the mystery guy would inhabit my thoughts for the remainder of the day. Glancing at the schedule still laying in my hand, I opted to locate my first class of this already peculiar day.
After five minutes I found my English class in the hall parallel to my locker; this school wasn't as complicated as my last high school. When I got there most of the seats were already taken by the other students. Nearly the whole class stared as I took one of the last two empty seats in the back. People were now whispering and pointing as if I was some sort of killer or monster.
I thought to myself, “Things cannot get any worse”.
I learned to expect the unexpected throughout the course of my life and today was no exception. The mystery guy walked into the classroom causing a dead silence and continuous staring back and forth between him and myself. I proved to be right; our similar appearances were noticed by the whole class, not just me.
He looked at me and then at the door as if deciding to run away from the awkward situation. Momentarily, our teacher a short, chubby red haired woman bumped into the mystery guy. After exchanging some heated words the mystery guy sat down. With no alternative, the mystery guy slid into the seat beside me without looking at me or anyone else in the classroom.
A brunette girl next to his seat whispered to him, "Is the guy next to you a family member or something? He looks like you." The brunette had no use for a megaphone because, whether she meant to or not, her vociferous tone allowed the entire class to hear her question.
The mystery guy just nodded a no and kept looking to the teacher as she introduced herself and the basics of the course. She then began calling row; the anticipation was obvious for everyone sat on the edge of their seat eager to hear.
"Caleb Farrington." The mystery guy raised his hand as the teacher looked up and shook her head in utter disappointment.
"Calvin Sparks." I raised my hand and said here as low as possible, but I could still see most of the classroom turn to look at me.
