-Eight Months Later-
May, 17
Eight months speed by without a word from Erin’s disappearance. Eight months since mom’s death, from the day I learned about my true self, from the moment I fell in love. I was physically, mentally, and spiritually in love with Acaeus, loving him with every fiber of my being. Caleb was never the same person from eight months ago when they found Erin’s grandmother dead in her living room. A purple rose and a black rose and Erin’s bracelet from Caleb were the only things found at the scene of the crime. Hunter X explained to me and my brother what I already knew about the connection of roses with vampires.
Mrs. Prize's body was found by another staff member later the same week; deaths kept rising during these past eight months. Mainly young teens and some adults were being killed. Police officers tried to keep everything under control, but the town people would not go out at night anymore. A mandatory curfew had been set; no one could be out at night after seven. School cancelled all sports, clubs and any other extra-curricular activities held after school.
Marcus came by during winter break to pay his respects to mom at the cemetery. He never spoke to me during his visit. He left three days before the beginning of spring semester. During January, Acaeus kept me company at night, to protect me from his clan who suspected him of betrayal. I being alive meant he could not finish his duty.
Caleb and I trained daily at Hunter X's house and sometimes we would stay for extra practice. Around March, I sold mom’s house dividing the money between Marcus and I. I moved to Hunter X's house limiting Acaeus’ visits not wanting Hunter X or my brother to find out. My relationship with Acaeus only remained as close friends, but I wanted more from it. At night he invaded my dreams and thoughts. During these eight months my love for him increased each day. Something I could not continue to hide.
April came, Caleb left his house to come and live at Hunter X's. School got cut short making it half a day. I only saw Alena a few times during these past couple of months. Erin’s disappearance drifted us apart, but I knew it was I who drifted. Now May is here, our last month as seniors, the month of prom and graduation. Before I was aware I came from a family of hunters, prom and graduation were something I looked forward to. Prom will be tomorrow, but going will only mean, I'm not accepting the dangers of the night. Prom will be the only event held during night, but with a lot of security. As if cops and their guns could stop a hungry clan of vampires. I heard glass breaking from the kitchen, Caleb must have broken something. Again...
Pieces of a broken China plates scattered all around Caleb's feet. "Are you okay?"
Caleb looked up at me. "Do I look okay to you?" His words hurt me but who could blame my brother for his attitude. The girl he loved was taken away by our enemies. Acaeus has told me she's still alive, but how could I tell Caleb without telling him about Acaeus.
"Boys there you two are." Hunter X walked into the kitchen with his daily cigar in his mouth. He noticed Caleb’s broken plate, but spoke nothing of it.
"I need to talk to both of you in a while. I will wait in the living room." Hunter X passed by me making his way to the next room.
"Calvin I'm sorry."
"It's okay I understand."
"Can you forgive me for not being the brother you need right now?"
"Caleb I'm more than happy to spend time with my real brother when we were separated for many years."
