Words can't describe how thankful Althea is that today is today.

She's been swamped with assignments, two quizzes, and an essay on top of her mother consulting her about the business for the last few days. She's tired and she's starting to feel trapped in this house since she hasn't had time to visit Lorraine and the boys with how busy she's been.

But all of that's put on pause for today. Even if it's illegal.

Why?

Because it's Valentine's Day.

She can finally spend time with her boyfriend and her friends. Just a nice group outing for them to catch up and get a little drunk.

She'd be bouncing off the walls right now if she weren't trying so hard to decide what to wear.

"La blusa roja? No, esta fea. White-?"

"Qué haces?"

Althea curses to herself before looking up at her mother. She's trying not to look like she got caught doing something wrong.

"Pretending to pick out outfits like I'm going on a date. And no ine wan ya pity," she sighs. Hoping she appears harsh. She follows her statement by hugging the clothes to her chest.

Her mother's eyes fill with sympathy as she wanders into the room. Clutching tighter at her robe, she wraps an arm around Althea and kisses her temple.

"Está bien...I know this pandemic is hard but it'll end eventually?"

"You don't know that. It's been a month and Dad said this might last for several." She fake sighs and turns away. "...Please leave. Yo quiero estar sola..."

"Hija..."

"Mamá please. I'll get over it."

The woman purses her lips and nods before squeezing her tightly. "Lo siento bebé. I wish I could help. Do you want a break from work? You've helped me so much so I understand-"

"No! No I like helping you. It's fine. I'll be fine."

Please go. Please go so you don't notice the lies being told to you.

She sighs and nods before turning her head. There's a pit in Althea's stomach that settles as she watches her back growing farther. She doesn't like the fact she just outright lied to her face but she doesn't want to see her reaction to her breaking the law.

And plus it's almost time for the police to start their patrol.

She messages Lorraine that she'll be on her way and locks her door. Her mother might check in on her later but at least this'll give the impression that she's asleep and deter her. She can always sneak back in through the window. The perks of having a 1-story home.
