Shay's POV

"Shaylee, hey Shaylee you gotta call from St. Hopkins Hospital. Said something about your girlfriend, you should hurry on down." Garret my manger had told me and my whole body went cold. What the hell had happened? I grabbed my coat and told him I had to go and he knew better than to question it. I slipped into my car and called her phone as I fumbled with my keys. It went to voicemail and I cursed as I sped toward the hospital.

~

I turned an hour drive into a 35 minute drive lucky I didn't get pulled over by a cop. I ran into the hospital stopping at the emergency room's front desk. "I'm looking for Everest Goodman. She's pregnant and was brought in an ambulance." I said and the women straightened her glasses and typed something in before looking at me.

"Ms. Goodman was moved to the fourteenth floor maternity ward about ten minutes ago just take the first elevator up and ask for her at that desk." She assisted and I walked over pressing the elevator button serval times.

"Come on....come on..!" I said and pressed it three more times before it dinged and the lazy doors open. I stepped in pressing the fourteenth floor button tapping my foot nervously and watching the numbers click through one by one. I couldn't help but pray everything was gonna be fine. The elevator of course made three more stops before it finally opened to my floor and I rushed to the front desk. "Everest Goodman." I spoke quickly to nervous to get my voice over its whisper and she looked at a clip board and up at me. "She's in the OR ma'am if I could have you sit in the waiting room a doctor will be with you as soon as possible OK?" She said sweetly and I nodded as I made my way to the quant little waiting area with a couple of strewn about chairs and flatcreen. I took a seat at the end and sighed rubbing my head. A middle-aged man sat a couple of chairs away clicking the remote through the few fuzzy channels on the tv. I looked at my watch, my shoes, the tv, the smudge of something yellow on the carpet, a picture of Jesus next to a vagina diagram, the middle aged man and then again at my watch. I was starting to get impatient. I realized how little I knew about what was happening and I tried not to worry. Everything was fine.....right? Everest was strong as hell, she'd already been through so much. She could handle this.

"First baby huh," The middle-aged man spoke up glancing over at me. I hadn't thought that he was probably waiting on his wife too. Why didn't he look nervous? "I remember when Victoria had our first baby. I was scared shitless" He continued chuckling and I chuckled to almost breathlessly. Of course he'd probably been through this already. "Yeah nearly scared me to death she did."

"I'm sure it did." I said and he smiled softly.

"How many you expectin. Victoria had two her first pregnancy. Twin boys."

"Two girls" I said and his eyes widened.

"Planned?" He asked gawking and I shook my head. Far from it my old friend....far from it. "Well you'll have your hands full honey I'll tell you that. Girls are......complicated." He began said and we both laughed. Just before he was about to go into what seemed like a 'You Can Do It' speech and doctor came in and he called my name. I stood like a prisoner in court and she smiled at me.

"Hello, my name is Doctor Franklin. You must be the infamous Shaylee, Ms. Goodman has been asking for you but due to the......delicate situation we weren't allowed to let you through to see her. She did in fact go into premature labor today and we had to rush her into deliver." She said this and I started to get nervous. The babies are more than a month and a half early, of course this wasn't gonna be a good.

"Are they ok? How's Everest? Can I see them?" I asked in a quick recession.

"The twins are fine but are placed in an incubator just in case due to their early delivery and Everest was a trooper." She chuckled. "She put up a fight about you so I'm sure she'd love to finally see your face" She said and I nodded. He turned to lead me to her room and couldn't help but to say goodbye to my middle-aged roomie and waved and smiled congratulating me.

-Everest POV-

The knock on my room door pulled me out of my light sleep and I turned my head to see my doctor who wore this goofy cartoon smile as she ushered in Shay. My heart felt as if it was swollen in my chest as my eyes graced her worried face. The sight of her made me want to cry and burst at the same time. Shay rushed over to me closing the distance between us with an embrace that was soft and clearly restrained. I buried my blurry eyes into her shoulder and gripped her as tight as my sore body would allow. I hadn't realized how much of a relief I felt now that she was here in the room with me.

"I'm sorry I wasn't here for you." She choked out nuzzled into my neck. When she pulled back and looked at me with teary eyes I shook my head disagreeing not trusting my broken voice as I kissed her face. She was here now and that's what mattered. My doctor excused herself as we continue this moment of frightening relief. I scooted over on the bed for her to lay and she climbed in with me. I cuddled right under her as we laid like this without words until I was sure we were both sleep. I was awakened by the cool emptiness of my bed and I peeked out of one eye to confirm I really was alone. I opened both of my eyes and stretched but stop as I winced at a pain in my abdomen. My hand instinctively flew down to my stomach....oh right. I didn't think my mind would get use to not having little lives inside me anymore. Shay came in with two greasy bags of Sonic burgers and the aroma pulled me out my revere.

"I had to bribe your nurse with a smoothie to get this in here." She chuckled kicking off her Jordan's and sitting an additional black duffle bag down next to the bed. She climbed aboard facing me and sat the bags down. "I got your favorite." She said and pulled out the huge burger and onion rings. She knew me well. Sonic was by far my favorite fast food place but I knew there wasn't one close to here. It was only McDonald's and Burger King's for a good ten miles which means she had to drive maybe an hour to find one. Small things like this she tends to do for me make me feel so lucky to have her here everyday. "I also got you something else too while I was there." She said and pulled out a Sonic Kids Meal toy and I couldn't help but laugh. "Hey I had to pay a kids 5 bucks to get this you so better enjoy this treasure." She chuckled and I took it giggling.

"Thank you, I love it." I said as I unwrapped the little plush polar bear holding a Coke in his mouth. I sat it on my little bedside table rubbing it's head.

"I'm glad." She said leaning in to peck my lips quickly making me blush. "Now eat this fattening food and be merry!" She said all dramatic and I giggled unwrapping the burger and taking a bite and it was heaven I tell you.

"Have you seen the Twins?" I asked as I chewed a onion ring.

"No," She said shaking her head and looked at me "I wanted us to go see them together. I wouldn't go without you." She said and my heart felt swollen again and all I could do was nod and blink away the tears that threatened to fall.

"Can we see them tomorrow?" I asked after a few silent minutes of chewing and she smiled.

"Yes, I would like that very much." She said and I smiled back. "Oh I called your parents too, they should be up here tomorrow as well." I nodded and already knew my mother was gonna have a cow that she wasn't here for the delivery of her Grandbabies so I went ahead and prepared myself for it.

After we had finished eating I had gotten sleepy again so we cuddled up and I was soon sleepy to the thought of seeing my babies tomorrow. I thought also lingered in the back of my mind that I'd been trying to fight. Now that the twins are born should I tell Chrysler? Would he want to see them? Would he want custody or visiting rights? Could I handle that?
