Margareta, Caiman's mother, got up from the couch as Caiman walked through the door. "Hola mijo!" she exclaimed, kissing his cheek. "I just got a text from Elle's mom,"
He stiffened. Face pale, he laughed nervously. "W-what did she say?"
"Caiman, why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend?"
He laughed shakily, staring wide eyed at the floor. "I just... didn't..." He plastered on a smile as he grasped for a reason. "Want you to... embarrass me,"
"Bueno lo que sea. I'm just happy that you finally have a girlfriend!" his mom exclaimed, wrapping her arms around him. He laughed awkwardly, a cold sweat beading on his forehead.

Caiman laid his head back, stomach churning. It was a good way to hide both of their sexualities. It was a good way to earn both of their parents' approval. And it felt wrong in a way, but at the same time... it felt good to finally get a hug from his mom that was out of pure emotion, and not just obligation.
If he told his mom the truth, she would never be proud of him. She might even send him to live with his dad, meaning he'd leave all of his friends, and his plans, behind. She would never be as proud if Caiman brought home a boy.
With a big sigh, Caiman turned over and grabbed his notebook. He clicked his pen and chewed on his fingernails, staring at the blank paper.
