Elle twisted her fork in the spaghetti on her plate, pouting subconsciously.
"Dear, please eat your food instead of playing with it," her mother said, fingers interlocking and politely sitting on the table in front of her. Elle glanced up and quickly complied, attempting to avoid any further conversation.
She failed.
"So, how is your boyfriend?" her dad asked, gulping down a forkful of spaghetti.
Elle grimaced. "He's good! Yeah, he's doing... great," She stumbled over her words, eyeing her siblings for a bit of help.
Her sister, Maia, smirked and set her fork down. "Tell us more, lovely sister," she teased. Elle sent a glare her way, before adorning an innocent smile.
"Well, I mean, he's a boy and we're dating, that's really all," She chortled nervously.
"What's his name, baby sister?" Elle's brother, Tory, jumped in, eyes mischievous.
Elle grasped painfully for any names. "He-... his name is... a secret," she said, trying to suggest intellect and mysteriousness in her tone, but sounding dumber than ever.
Maia chuckled heartily. "A secret?"
"She's prob'ly just fibbing," Tory said. He rolled his eyes, getting him a slap on the wrist from their mom.
"Stop messing with your sister," she scolded, then turned to her youngest. "How about you invite your boyfriend to dinner on Friday?" Her face was innocent, but Elle's heart began pounding.
She nodded, then pushed her plate away. "Okay, sure! Awesome! I'm full. May I be excused?"
Her dad raised an eyebrow, but complied, waving her off.
Elle raced to her room, despair weaving itself into a tight knot in her stomach. She flopped onto her bed and rubbed her eyes. Exhaustion hit her and she hastily put on her pajamas, then grabbed some fuzzy socks and pulled them on. Her phone buzzed as she took out her earring, and she leaned over to text. A smile tugged at her lips.
Completely forgetting about her insanely stressing dilemma, Elle pulled out her laptop and opened Netflix, listening to the intense music behind the fight scene. Her thoughts were rarely perturbed, only Whimsy and Voltron sexuality head cannons made it through her iron skull.

Caiman sat in the slowly filling classroom, zoning out. The advisory teacher sat at her desk, paying little attention to the kids filing in. One boy ran into the classroom, caught a football, then sprinted back out. The teacher yelled, but didn't pull her eyes away from her phone.
He didn't really mind the teacher's distraction. It gave him a chance to doodle mushrooms on his math homework instead of actually doing it.
The only thing that caught his attention was the smiling girl walking into class, holding a cup of coffee.
She sat down next to him and sighed dreamily.
He frowned. "Why're you so happy?" he asked sarcastically. Elle turned around and annoyance twitched at the corner of her eye.
"Am I not allowed to be happy?"
Caiman shrugged. "I never said that, just wanted to know what my best friend might be swooning about."
Giggling, Elle caved. "Aww okay. I hung out with Whimsy this morning," she murmured, eyes cast sideways as she longingly stared at the pencil sharpener. "She's just so beautiful and kind and amazing and perfect," Elle leaned on her hand, a goofy smile on her face.
Rolling his eyes, Caiman leaned back. "You're so clingy,"
"I will throw this scalding coffee into your eyes with only a little remorse," Elle threatened, holding up her coffee cup menacingly. Caiman waggled his eyebrows at her, which made her snort. Luckily, the late bell rang in time to cover it up.
The teacher began lecturing, talking about neural pathways or something. Once she said notes weren't mandatory, Caiman clocked out.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
I wrote the first five parts early last year, so they are a bit old, but I did edit them when rebooting this. Each 'chapter' is split up into parts so that I can pace it easier. Enjoy!
