Caiman looked at himself. His eyes were dark, cheeks slightly sunken, and lips chapped. His hair was ruffled, pinned back by a single pink hair pin. He sighed and took the flower hair clip out of his hair, stuffing it into his bag. He pulled his hair behind his ears as much as he could, then turned the faucet handle, splashing water onto his skin.
The bathroom door opening startled him, and he spun around, water dripping from his eyelashes. "Hey dude!" Min, a classmate of Caiman's, said. They grinned. "I just got the biggest dysphoria moment when I came in here, this school really needs gender neutral bathrooms," Min noticed Caiman's expression, and tilted their head. "Sorry, did I scare you?"
"N-no," he murmured, a complete lie. "Are you okay?"
Min furrowed their brow. "Wh... oh, cause the dysphoria? Yeah yeah, I'm fine," They stepped closer. "Are you?"
Shoving his backpack behind him, Caiman smiled unconvincingly. "Yeah yeah, I just need to change," He stepped aside and crept into the bathroom stall, biting his tongue waiting for Min to leave. Once he heard them go, he began to change out of his brightly colored, pastel clothes, into a sweatshirt and jeans. Once he left the stall, he looked at himself again.
It was like he wasn't even looking at himself. He began to mess with his hair, eventually ending up unsatisfied and just leaving it messy and unkempt. He slung his bag on his shoulder, and left, eyes cast down.

When Caiman entered the house, his mother immediately passed him. "Babe, can you do the laundry?" she asked, not even making eye contact. His little brother screamed and grabbed his shoes. "Allen!" their mother yelled.
He began crying. "Momma, momma! Rita bited me!"
Their mother grabbed him and began scolding him to get his shoes on. "Caiman, watch Rita, she just got spayed and she's crabby," She gestured to crying Allen. "I'm glad you've stopped wearing those sinful clothes, kay? Bye, thank you." She kissed Caiman's cheek and walked out the door.
He sighed and put his backpack down, then kicked his shoes off. Their lab-rottweiler mix looked at him sadly, then came and rubbed against his leg. He smiled sadly and scratched her head. "Good girl Reets," he said. "Good girl."
