Stars scattered the dark sky, adding a slightly pale hue to the universe that Lulu was slowly melting into, barely holding her body straight with her eyes glued on the sky and her hand glued to the almost empty bottle of wine.
For a few minutes, she was so absorbed by the constellations sprinkling the landscape that she had completely forgotten where she was and what was currently going on in her life.
All she could focus on were the blurry movements of the white dots all around her, mesmerized by this beautiful display of nature's artwork.
Maddy noticed her and she couldn't help the sadness creeping up in her heart at the sight of her best friend drunk and all alone in the backyard —staring at the stars and drinking her life away as if it were the only things that could soothe her at the moment.
Maddy stood next to her, wrapping an arm around the girl's waist, dropping her head on her shoulder, "What got you smiling?"
Lulu giggled, "It's so pretty! Look up, I swear they all look different."
And Maddy tightened her grip, finally looking at Lulu instead of looking up at the sky. She let out a sigh, causing Lulu to make eye contact with her, her eyes opening wide at the sight of the necklace, "Oh! That's pretty!"
Maddy played with the necklace, "It's a present from Nate... He just showed up."
Lulu's face contorted into a grimace and she spotted him inside, as he was already watching them, "I hate him."
Maddy couldn't contain her chuckling, "I know."
"Oh, wait!" Lulu gasped, dragging her back inside, "I didn't give you my present yet!"
She handed her a box and the rest of the people gathered around, Kat and BB pulling out their phones to record the moment. Maddy opened the box and gasped as she pulled out a small purse that had her name engraved with crystals.
"You kept saying you wanted the same," Lulu said, "So I made one just for you."
Maddy put it on her shoulder, looking at Lulu with stars in her eyes, "You are insane, I know how much this bag costs!"
"Oh come on, I'm one of the brand's faces," Lulu replied, "You really think they made me pay?"
Maddy jumped up and tackled her in a hug, "I love it so much! Thank you!"
After a few pictures were taken, Lulu dozed off in the living room where she danced with BB, Lexi and Suze until Maddy threw a bathing suit at her face, "Hot tub, bitches!"

Lulu dipped her body in the hot water, quickly placing a cigarette between her reddened lips, sipping her beer.
