Charlie's POV
I dial my father's number as soon as Louis leaves the room. I am kind of tempted to look through his call log just to see if the recent calls relate to the job he was getting. But I don't know these guys well enough to be curious over silly things like that.
Once I dial my dad's number and the phone starts ringing, I feel calmed down a bit.
"Hello?" I hear my father say into the phone.
"Dad? It's me, Charlie!" I sound happier than I intended to.
"Charlie? Oh goodness you're okay! I have called you so many times and you never answered! I was worried sick! Where are you? Who's phone are you using? Where did you go at the airport?" My dad sounds frantic and worried as he throws all these questions at me.
"I'm fine, dad," I assure him "I was trying to follow you as quickly as I can but I lost you and this rude guy distracted me so by the time I got rid of him I saw the plane taking off."
"Why haven't you answered your phone? Where are you right now? Who's phone are you using?"
"My phone died and I haven't been on it much so I didn't realize it needed to be charged and I have been staying at a hotel and I borrowed someone's phone," I don't really want to tell him that I have been living off of five strangers that I met at the airport for the past two days. Or that I'm at the house of those five strangers.
"Hotel? Where did you get the money for that? And who's phone?"
"I uh got a job at a corner store to pay for my stay at a cheap hotel and I borrowed one of my worker's phone," I bite my lip as I lie to him.
"A job? That's great, hunny! You're getting your independence! Papa is proud of you, Char. Now, when are you getting here?"
I freeze for a second. How will I explain this to him? That I won't be showing up because five strangers won't pay for my ticket. Wait. I haven't asked them yet!
"Soon, dad," I make a promise that I know I probably can't keep "tell the family I said hi and I gotta go, love you, bye!"
I hang up the phone and I toss it on the couch. I bury my face in my hands. What do I do now? I already have them paying for my hotel stay and getting me a job. Now I'm about to ask them to buy me a plane ticket to New York?
"So my phone belongs to a worker now?" Louis walks back into the room to retrieve his phone.
"You were eavesdropping, weren't you?" I look up at him.
"It's not eavesdropping when it's my phone," Louis sits on the couch. I notice that he now has on a navy blue t shirt and his hair is wet. He looks really sexy right now not even gonna lie.
What the hell am I thinking? This is Louis I'm talking about here.
"So tell me," He starts "how are you planning on getting to New York?"
"How much did you hear?"
"Just answer the damn question."
"Make me."
Louis smirks and picks up his phone before he starts typing.
"Hey dad, it's Charlie. I just wanted to confess that I'm not going to New York because I'm too busy living off of five guys and one specific one of the five is named Louis and he is hot as fuck," Louis reads aloud as he types.
"Louis! What the hell!? Don't send that!" I jump up and demand him.
"Tell me how you're getting to New York and I won't," Louis smirks again. I really want to choke this british munchkin.
"Fine," I give in "I was going to ask you guys for some money to buy a plane ticket so I don't let my father down."
"Interesting," Louis locks his phone and looks out the window.
I hear the front door suddenly open and I turn to see who it is. Lucky for me, it's Harry.
"Niall! Harry's here!" Louis calls out to Niall as he stands and walks into the kitchen. He just had a big bowl of chips. What else could he want to eat?
Niall walks out from the back, scratching the back of his head while he struggles to keep his eyes open. I assume he was sleeping.
"Harry, it's your turn to pay for two nights at the hotel for Charlie," Niall tells Harry before taking a seat in a nearby chair and crosses his arms.
"How long is your dad gonna be gone anyways?" Harry asks me while he fishes out his wallet.
"A month. It was a one month trip." I answer him.
"So we are paying for you for a month?" Niall questions. He makes it sound even worse than it really is.
Actually no that is kinda bad.
"You don't really have to.." I fiddle with my fingers "Once I get a job which should be soon then you guys won't have to pay for me and we won't all have to meet again."
I made that a little harsher than intended.
"It's okay, we were just wondering. We will make Liam pay for most of your stays though," Harry laughs before handing me enough money for a couple more night's at the hotel.
"You guys won't be needing to pay for more hotel stays I mean she's not even---"
I shoot Louis a look, pleading for him not to tell them about me wanting plane tickets.
Louis looks back at me and he sighs.
"---going to need your help after she gets a job," Louis saves me by saying.
"Uh yeah," I smile and quickly grab my bags, signaling that I want to leave without being rude.
"Harry, could you return Charlie to the hotel," Niall asks as he rubs his eyes and tries to keep them open.
"I just got home, make Louis do it," Harry tosses his keys to Louis. I expect Louis to turn and curse him out. Or even just drop the keys and laugh. But he doesn't. He instead walks directly toward me, grabs my arm, and rushes me out the door.
