not so alone anymore

(This is 20 years after the last one yume's 21 and kokichi is 42)

Kokichi had celebrated his baby's birthday every year even though the most important part was missing, his kid, he didn't mind though, it was mainly a symbolic thing, he refused to be a deadbeat dad. Every year he would thoroughly decorate his apartment with balloons and streamers and everything, he would even buy an ice cream cake.

He was walking home with this year's ice cream cake, anticipating another year of celebrating his kid's birthday without his kid when someone runs up to him and asks, "hi, are you kokichi ouma?" This startles him, "why are you asking?" The person shows him the picture he left for his kid so many years ago, "I'm looking for my... Well he called himself my dada, but that was probably because he left when I was a baby, but I'm still looking for him." "I'm kokichi ouma" they hug him, "I'm glad I found you, dad said he tried to look for you, but he couldn't find you." "Shuma- shuichi didn't look for me, if he did, he would've called or texted me, he would've let me talk to you when I saw you two at the park instead of taking you home as soon as he saw me, and taking you out of daycare when he found out I started working there." He hugged yume, "I'm sorry I was never there for you when you were young and that I missed every milestone of your life, I wanted to be there, believe me I did, but your dad didn't want me around, but I've celebrated every birthday of your life, I know this won't make it up, but we can do whatever you want for your birthday, promise, I need to go home now so your birthday cake doesn't melt."

Kokichi starts walking home, and to his surprise, yume was following him. "Do you have a new partner?" "No, I don't want one." "So you live alone?" "Yeah" they both enter his apartment, which is once again heavily decorated for their birthday. He puts their ice cream cake in the freezer and grabs his wallet, he takes a hundred dollars and holds it out to yume who gasps, "I can't take that!" "Why not?" "That's alot of money!" "But I want you to have it, I have no clue what you like, so I want you to buy something nice for yourself" "fine" they take the money and notice some camping gear. "You like to camp?" "Yeah, do you?" "Yeah, me and dad used to go camping all the time before he got remarried." Kokichi smiled sadly, he got remarried, good for him... He thought to himself "well do you wanna go camping for your birthday? " "yeah!" "Ok, do you have equipment?" "Yeah, it's at home." "Ok, let's go"

They go to kokichi's old house. Kokichi stays at the porch while yume goes in and comes out with their camping stuff and they're visibly upset. "Yume, what's wrong." "Dad's pissed that I met up with you, he said if I continue to talk to you, I could give up on my dreams, so he just stopped paying for me to go to college." 20 years and I still don't know what I did... "I could pay for your college." "Wait, you'd do that for someone you barely know?" "Of course, I want my baby to be happy, can you just come over every year on your birthday, I'm tired of spending your birthday alone..." "Of course, I'll come over way more often than that though." "Thank you" they hug him, "I love you pop, thank you for what your doing for me." Kokichi teared up when he was called pop and he hugged back.
