Max POV

It's now been a few hours sense David said goodnight, but I'm still wide awake, and I think Harrison is to. I think David has made it pretty obvious that what he did was not a overly cruel way to get back at me for being a brat over the summer, he's just stupid. I put on a thick red turtle neck and slip out the window, not bothering to say bye to Harrison. I walk in the direction I think Neil's house is in and before long I find his street and pick up the pace. Once I get there I go straight to his window, this time he's there waiting for me.
"Yo, hey Max! What took you so long?" Neil asks, jumping out the window
"Oh you know, uhh- just thinking shit through"

... there's an awkward silence between the two...

"So... uh, Neil, where do you wanna go tonight?" Max asks
"There's a 24/7 gas station a few hours from here, wanna go get ice cream?"
"Fuck yeah!"

Nobody POV

Max did not anticipate how long a 'few hours ' was
"Neeiilllll, are we there yet" he asks
"Almost "
"Aaagh this shit blows, why'd you have to pick somewhere so far away-" max grons
"Oh my fucking God, Max, it's like right around this corner"

The two turn the corner and go into the gas station an go straight to the ice cream, not giving the cashier a chance to question where their parents are.
They both pick out their ice cream and a drink to go with it, Neil pays for it all and then they leave.
