Shawn's Point Of View

I laughed and helped my mom set up the plates for dinner.

Aaliyah walked in and helped set up the silverware.

"I feel like it's been forever since we've last seen you Shawn," My mom said and placed scoops of pasta on each of the plates.

"I try to get a day off or two so I can come visit you guys," I said and took a seat next to my sister. "But lately with the EP just releasing, the management has been booking more concerts."

My dad chuckled, "you're saying that like as if it was a bad thing."

Aaliyah giggled, "we're just glad you're here Shawn."

I smiled and looked at my family. Two years ago, it would just be Aaliyah and I at the dinner table as our parents were somewhere off in the world. Now it's my parents and Aaliyah, and me off somewhere in the world.

"Is Corie back?" Aaliyah asked me, interrupting my thoughts. I tried to ignore her and eat my dinner, but both of my parents were waiting for me to answer.

I sighed and set my fork down, "I don't know."

Aaliyah rolled her eyes, "you're acting like you don't know her."

"Is this the Corie you've been rambling about?" My mom asked my sister. "Julie's daughter?"

Aaliyah nodded, "Shawn's girlfriend−"

"Ex. Ex-girlfriend."

"Ex?" My mom questioned. I couldn't blame her confusion, she was out of town the whole time when this happened.

"We broke up because she cheated on me," I said and continued to eat. My dad wasn't paying any attention, probably because he didn't care.

"That is wrong!" Aaliyah yelled.

I rolled my eyes, "you weren't there."

"You weren't either!" Aaliyah continued to yell.

"She was my girlfriend!"

"Enough!" My mom said to the both of us. Aaliyah and I looked at each other, then began to laugh. It was weird hearing our mom yell again.

My mom sighed and shook her head, but started to join in on our laughter. My dad chuckled and got up to put his plate in the sink.

I felt my phone starting to vibrate, so I excused myself from the table and walked outside.

"Hello?" I said as I pressed my phone close to my ear.

"Hey Shawn," The other line said. I recognized their voice, it was Hailey.

"You know, we live like five minutes away from each other."

Hailey giggled. "I know but, I need to tell you something."

I took a seat, "what happened?"

"Corie texted me and asked if everyone wanted to hang out. Since we're all in town," Hailey sheepishly said.

I raised an eyebrow. The last time I talked to Corie was two months ago, and I practically told her that I didn't want to see her again.

"She what?"

Hailey sighed, "Come on Shawn! We haven't seen Mahogany and Jacob in months and we never get to have a break, this could be fun!"

I shook my head, "and then what? We're going to play truth or dare and Nash beats me up?"

"Fine if you don't want to go, then don't." Hailey said. "We're gonna have lots of fun and you're going to miss it."

I laughed, "that doesn't make me change my mind."
