I buried my face into my pillow and let out a loud scream. Piles of papers were on the floor, scattered amongst my stuff on my side of the room. I couldn't find my notes for my calculus class, meaning I couldn't do the assignment online, meaning I was going to fail the test tomorrow. I lifted my face up from the pillow and felt tears making their way to my eyes, I quickly rubbed them and scooted down onto the floor. My fingers slowly reached the keyboard, typing random numbers and words onto the search bar for fun. The door slowly opened and I saw Kacey with her headphones on, two cups of iced coffee in her hand, and her books under her armpit. She placed one of the iced coffees next to me and jumped onto her bed in silence.

In silence.

Silence

I looked over at her, truly concerned for the girl. "Hey, are you okay?"

Kacey looked up from staring at her shoes and over at me. She nodded with a small smile on her face. "I'm fine."

I decided not to bother then. If she didn't want to talk about it, I don't care. I sighed and reached for the ice coffee. The taste was bitter, but I didn't mind anymore. I didn't mind anything.

"Is it just me or are the classes getting more expensive?" I asked myself as I checked my mom's bank account. "I'm thinking of dropping some of them." I should of done it yesterday, I thought.

Kacey nodded, "yeah they are."

I closed my laptop shut and laid on my back, staring up into the ceiling. This was hell, and I thought I could make it easy. My mom told me she would take care of my college, pay for my classes, gas for my car, my dorm. I think she's just saying this to calm me down, but I know we're struggling with money. Before, we had everything well saved and we had no worries. But now, I feel like we barely have any money for our house.

"I think we should get jobs," I said out loud. "And we should start looking for them now."

Kacey soon ended up on the floor next to me. "Like I said, there's a pet shop, but we could work as regular cashiers."

I sighed and continued looking at the ceiling, hoping it would fall on me. "No, I don't wanna work there. Did you say that Target was hiring too?"

"Yes, but−"

"Let's work there. We get employee discounts, or at least I hope, we get employee discounts there. We could buy more food, toiletries, some clothes," I stopped since I couldn't think of anything else. "Even more food."

Kacey began typing. "There's one Target hiring in Brooklyn, and then in the River Plaza."

I continued to stare at the ceiling, "Brooklyn is too far. We'll be late to class because I have afternoon ones." I felt Kacey staring at me. She continued to do so until finally turning back around.

"Why are you suddenly so interested in a job?"

I didn't answer right away. I was trying to think of a believable answer to tell instead of I'm going broke and am about to drop out of University. My eyes lightly shut my closed, maybe if she thinks I'm asleep I won't have to answer.

"Answer me."

Again, I didn't answer right away. I was still trying to think. Finally, I told her that I just needed one because my mom cut me off and wouldn't pay for anything except college. Kacey nodded and moved her laptop from the floor to her desk. I remembered on the first day we met, she spent so much money on decorations and clothes, I wondered how much she had already spent for her classes. After I got up from the floor, and when the slight dizziness hit me, I asked her why she needed a job.
