"are you really going to dinner with him?" awsten said leaving against my bedroom door frame. "yeah, its just josh?" i said looking at him through the mirror. i was adjusting my hair while talking. "why is it such a big deal?"

"i dont know you just met him.." he said stiffening his body. "the other two gave me an odd vibe." he was shaking his head. "thats because you dont know them." i said sliding on a pair of simple black heels. i always over dressed for things like this.

i straightened my shirt and tugged at my skirt. "how do i look?" i said turning to the colorful haired boy. "youre asking how i look when its 'just josh.'" he said with finger quotes. i rolled my eyes and grabbed my purse. "come on." i said and pulled him out of the apartment.

"go hang out with your other friends for once. dont worry about me." i said giving him a hug. "ill be fine. it seriously isnt a big deal. at all." he nodded and made his way downstairs. i walked back into my apartment to clean up my room a bit before i left.

finally it was time for me to head down to town. i decided to walk because the restaurant josh chose wasnt far. my heels clicking against the concrete as i walked. it was already getting dark outside.

i finally found the restaurant. i walked inside to immediately seeing the curly haired boy. except sam was with him, which he didnt tell me he invited him too. i took a breath and made my way towards them. "ah jackie!" josh said turning around ans giving me a bear hug.

i laughed "hey josh. hey sam." i said giving sam a half wave. sammy smiled back and said hi. we got a table after a few minutes and made awkward small talk. "i'm gunna go to the bathroom really quick." josh said after a while of silence and left me and sam alone.

once josh was far enough from the table sam laughed. "that fucker.." he mumbled. "what?" i said furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

"he isnt coming back. he left us here." he said shaking his head, still not looking at me. "oh.." i said awkwardly adjusting in my chair. what the hell? why would he leave us here?

my phone starting going off with a million texts. i looked down to see several missed calls and texts from awsten. "you can take that if you need to" sam said finally looking at me. "oh no its fine its just awsten." i said turning my phone on silent.

"oh.." he said nodding. "so whats he like?" he said putting his hand on his chin. "awsten? oh hes a character.." i said laughing. "we've been best friends since high school." his body language seemed to be relieved to hear that.

"i thought you guys were like together.." he said smiling. "he sure acted like you were."

"oh no no no." i said shaking my head. "definitely not." i said taking a sip of my drink. the waitress finally took our orders after some minutes of telling childhood stories of me and aws.

"so hows recording going?" i asked him. "its great." he nodded. "the studio is awesome by the way. your dad is amazing." he was talking with his hands. something i noticed all the brothers do.

i am so pissed at josh right now. i wish he would stop trying to run my life. but in a way, im thankful. i did enjoy jackies company.

her phone had gone off a trillion times. i told her she could check it if she needed to. "its just awsten." she told me shaking her head. urgh.

"whats he like?" i asked trying to be friendly. she told me they were best friends. i could practically feel the relief in my chest. not that she would be interested in me.. vice versa.. or so i wanted to tell myself.

i enjoyed listening to her talk, though. she was telling me a story about her and awsten getting detention in high school. her laughs between every sentence made my stomach whirl. why was i so worked up.

her cherry lips dancing as she smiled and went on and on. i couldnt help but feel a smile on my face too.

"hows recording going?" she asked me after the laughter died down. "oh its great. "the studio is awesome by the way, your dad is amazing." i said leaning back in my chair. "super helpful dude."

she smiled with that damn smile again. "im glad you like it. and you guys are welcome at the record store whenever you want to get away." she said

i smiled.

we enjoyed our foods in comfortable conversations. we even got political for a bit, but it was still a peaceful chat. i really loved talking to her.

once i had payed for our meal (jackie insisted she pay for hers but i wouldnt let her.) i stood up and followed her to the door. "would you want me to walk you home?" i asked, not wanting our evening to end.

"sure, its not far from here." she smiled up at me. she started walking down the block by my side. i slid my hands in my pockets awkwardly. her dark hair brushing off her shoulder in the wind.

the wind was piercingly cold. it wasn't normal for it to be so chilly outside here but i was used to it. jackie wrapped her arms around her stomach and shivered.

"oh.. here take this." i said taking off my cardigan sweater for her to wear. "im used to the cold, you can borrow this." i said handing it to her. "are you sure?" she said giving me her caring, green eyes.

"yes please, i don't want you to be cold." i said smiling at her. she took the cardigan and put it over her body, blushing.

seeing her blush gave me butterflies. she was so damn adorable.

we made it to a set of stairs that i assumed was her apartment complex. "thank you for walking me." she said turning to me. "here.." she started to take off the cardigan. "no, keep it. you look cuter in it anyways." i said without thinking.

she blushed again. "thank you." she said trying to hide a smile.

she looked back up to me again, a stray piece of her hair fell in her face. intrusively thinking, i reached to her face and tucked the hair behind her head slowly.
