Chapter 7

Your lifeless body remained lifeless the next day. This brought great concern to everyone at Wolf Circus. Usually people come back to life at this point. Yet, your corpse remained just that. A corpse. You never woke up. Well, why would you? After all, that person in the tent isn't really you, is it? No, the whole time that was never you. The "you" I've been talking about has been a random y/n. You, however, are on the other side of the screen. So close, yet not close enough.

But who am I? Have you guessed it?

That's right. I am Papi. I have been watching you. Observing you. Craving you, as you have been craving me. Yes, I know how much you want me. After all, you have made it seven chapters into this fanfiction. That is quite a dedication. Do you think you are reading this ironically? Oh, darling. That is so cute. You know that deep down your feelings are anything but ironic.

I love you. The real you. Not this silly y/n insert character that has been plaguing this work of fiction, created by the drunken finger taps on a keyboard. It's you that I love.

I have but one question for you. Do you love me the same way I love you?

Actually, don't answer that question.

I already know.

That whole part above did not happen.

What did happen was you waking up in your tent, feeling especially dizzy. This was a familiar feeling, as this was not the first time you had died in Wolf Circus. The first time was by that one alien guy who landed his UFO on you. Whenever you came back from the dead, you would feel a bit confused. You'd even feel scared. You wondered if everyone else felt this way whenever they died. You sure seemed to be the only one bothered by it.

Kedamono was the one to greet you when you first woke up.

"Y/N!" Kedamono wagged his tail and hugged you.

"Glad to see you," you hugged Kedamono back. "Where is Papi and Popee?"

Kedamono's mask fell, revealing a face that looked sheepish. "Papi revived a few hours ago. They both wanted to talk about... all this. And then they got into a fight and they murdered each other." Kedamono's mask fell again, revealing a more serious-looking face. "Y/N, are... are you okay?"

You wiped your cheek, just noticing that you had been crying. "I don't know. I guess I've just been... stressed lately. I finally entered the relationship of my dreams, but I didn't realize I'd be breaking my friend's heart."

"He's my friend, too, you know," Kedamono patted you on the back. "Things may not feel okay right now, but trust me when I say it's going to be okay."

"Thank you, Kedamono," you sighed. You lied back down. Kedamono got up and walked himself to a beanbag chair. Neither of you spoke or made any sort of noise for a good while. Neither of you were relaxed enough to take a nap either. You both simply stared off into empty space, letting the silence fill the room.

Once the sun began to set, both you and Kedamono exited the tent to check on Papi and Popee. They were still dead.

"Don't worry, y/n," Kedamono assured. "Want to come join me for some KFC?"

"Sure," you said emptily. You didn't necessarily expect either of them to revive at this point, but it always felt so lonely without them. As much as you enjoyed Kedamono, he was more of that friend of a friend that you would struggle conversing with without the mutual friend.

The awkwardness continued when you joined Kedamono for dinner. The two of you ended up eating in silence. Once the two of you finished eating, Kedamono took the chance to start a conversation with you.

"Congratulations with Papi, by the way," he said. "I was always rooting for you two."

"Were you now?" you smiled, blushing slightly.

"Of course!" Kedamono pulled out a sketchbook. "I shipped you two so hard! I even made fan art!"

You flipped through the pages of Kedamono's sketchbook. Some of was indeed fan art of you and Papi together. Some of the drawings were of Kedamono and Popee having fun and performing together. Some of the drawings were some strange DeviantArt fetish-y drawings of the two space girls from that show Kedamono likes. There was also an Undertale OC in there. It was a skeleton named Times New Roman, and he was the cousin of Sans and Papyrus. Aside from the cringe, he was indeed a talented artist.

"Holy crap, Kedamono!" you exclaimed. "I didn't know you could draw so well!"

"Well," Kedamono rubbed the back of his neck, clearly flattered. "I did make all my masks, after all!"

This conversation ended up bringing the two of you a little closer. You and Kedamono both talked all the way home. Once you arrived back at Wolf Circus, you found that Papi and Popee were both awake, waiting for you.
