EXTENDED SUMMARY Moana Vairea wasn't a typical daughter of Athena.
Now, see, children of Athena were taught from a young age of the rivalry between their mother and the sea God Poseidon. In order to respect their mother, they would try and seclude everything Poseidon-related, including their children. However, it was good for the children of Athena at Camp Half-Blood since there were no children of Poseidon.
But then Percy Jackson came and shook everything up.
Moana had always been drawn to the ocean, which her siblings never understood. Instead of sitting at a table going over battle plans for fun, people would spot her on the beach of the Long Island Sound, a flower tucked behind her ear and her hair blowing in the salty wind. Marigold Tanaka was often seen with her as well.
And maybe it was because he was a son of Poseidon, but Moana also finds herself getting drawn to Percy Jackson — which definitely would upset her mother. But if Annabeth could be friends with him, why couldn't she?
Moana soon comes to find that being friends with Percy Jackson would cause her to start to like him, all in the midst of quests that she never imagined she would find herself on. However, all she does know is that she has her eyes set on that line where the sky meets the sea, and that's all she needs.

• annabeth somehow manages to drag her on the quest but moana mostly agrees because percy's there
• percy and moana bond over their love for the ocean but they realize they have more in common than they thought ✩
• when they come back from the quest everyone is shocked to see that yet another daughter of athena and a son of poseidon are good friends because of the rivalry

• for book two (the battle of the labyrinth & the last olympian), book three (the lost hero & the mark of athena), and book four (the house of hades & the blood of olympus) — if you plan on going that far — I was thinking the book titles could be where you are, know who you are, and I am moana respectively, all of course going hand in hand with the moana soundtrack :)
