James woke up feeling a lot better. He was still having nightmares about the liquid, but he had gotten so used to them now he barely even woke up in a sweat anymore. He also wasn't thinking about Regulus and his words, or tried to anyway. He decided to take a break from his own saviour complex and let the Slytherin go talk to his friends - James tried not to particularly care. Instead, he got himself to the Great Hall before the big rush of people, and started working on the list of things he needed to do as both Quidditch captain and Head-boy. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to handle both, but he felt like he couldn't refuse when he was given them. So James would find a way to do them, plus study for his N.E.W.T.s all together. He was just finishing up when an extremely tired couple came into the Hall, sitting down across from James and slowly putting things on their plate, as well as an extremely perkish Peter bouncing in behind them, sitting next to James rather happily. "Mornin Pete, what's got you so happy this morning?" James chuckled as he looked fondly at his friend, he seemed like he could barely sit still in his seat.
"The first day of course! I've missed the lessons." Peter says, blushing slightly at the tip of his nose.
"Said no-one ever." Grumbled Sirius, who leaned tiredly on Remus' shoulder, who surprisingly looked just as exhausted.
"Uh huh... and what's got you two so tired?"
"If you must know we were up all night fu-" Peter choked on his porridge he was eating, effectively cutting Sirius short of finishing that sentence. James wrinkled his nose. At least they had finally learnt a silencing charm he thought. The first couple of times they got together... No-one could sleep for those nights.
"I'm going for a smoke, see if it can't wake me up." Remus groaned, stretching as he stood up, finishing the toast on Sirius' plate.
"I'll join you." James says. Remus looked questionably at him but didn't push any further as they both walked out of the Great Hall.—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Thought you quit Prongs."
"Eh, quittings for losers." Remus chuckled at that as he exhaled the smoke, expertly making rings that James was incredibly envious of. He had tried teaching himself how to do it once, ending in disastrous results and a pounding headache. "It's the nightmares." James says quietly, inhaling his own cigarette. Remus didn't push for an explanation, just nodded his head as he knocked shoulder slightly with James'.
"Well, I would say that there are better ways to deal with nightmares that having a smoke, but fuck who am I to judge." James grinned at that. It's why he loved Remus so much, he never pushed James into saying anything more than he wanted to, but always knew what to say to make the situation better.
"Why isn't Padfoot with us? Thought he could never turn down the chance to have a cig." Sirius was a worse smoker than both the boys put together, and considering Remus' habits that was quite an achievement.
"Hell if I know, I think it was his year seven resolution. To quit or some shit like that." Remus answers, which makes James snort.
"Pah, we'll see how long that lasts." The last time Sirius went on a break he got into such a hissy mood Remus forced a cigarette in his mouth and lit it for him, and continued to say he would rather have a boyfriend with lung cancer than one with a poor attitude."Indeed." There was a comfortable silence between the two as they took drags, Remus creating fancy smoke tricks that mesmerised James. "I give him a day." Remus says suddenly, almost frightening James with the noise. He felt a smile creep onto his face.
"Pft, a day? Give him till first fucking period and we'll see him crack." Remus looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"You think? Wanna bet on it, Prongs?"
