James couldn't stop thinking about Regulus' smile.

During his lessons after the match, he couldn't focus on anything else other than that boy's grin. It earnt him scoldings from his Professors, and some pretty weird looks from his friends, but James was simply in a daze.

He couldn't stop thinking about Regulus' grin.

He never thought he could miss something that he didn't know existed until that moment. Even from the distance James had sat during the match, he could still see the full effects of the smile on the boy's face. He could see the cutest dimples that adorned his face, and how his eyes squinted slightly from the full grin, filled with adrenaline and happiness. Regulus just looked so happy, something James hadn't ever seen on his face before.

And he smiled just for him.

If James was in his bed at that moment, he would have been kicking his legs up and down in glee. Instead though, the boys were in their potions class, learning how to make the antidote to Veritaserum, before making the truth potion itself. Needless to say, it wasn't going well for James.

"Prongs that is your fifth explosion, the fuck are you doing wrong?"

"You think if I knew, the potion would still be exploding? " James grits out to Sirius' question, sweat dripping down the side of his face and he tries to figure out why it wasn't working. He was following every single instruction from the book, even having Remus look over as he did it.

But it still wasn't fucking working.

James slammed the book on the table, before frustratingly waving his hand over his cauldron and making his latest mess disappear without a trace.

"James! M'boy! How are you doing?" James jumped in fright as a voice boomed behind him. He looked round to see Professor Slughorn walk towards him with a beam on his red face. He then glanced back around, to see if somehow Slughorn had mistaken him for someone else. Because Slughorn did not speak to James like that. Ever. Despite this, the Professor clapped his large hand on James' shoulder, his back almost buckling from the pure weight of it. James turned his head back round, smiling hesitantly at Slughorn.

"I'm..uh, good Professor. How are you?" He said politely, the three other boys trying their best to hide their snickers - unsuccessfully. Slughorn seemingly ignored them however, his gaze focusing solely on James, who was very uncomfortable.

"I'm good M'boy! Listen, I have a nice dinner party happening this Saturday, Mr. Lupin will be there as well, and I thought it would be lovely for you to join us! My, your Head Boy and all, it would be an honour!" Slughorn was still beaming as he patted James' shoulder again heavily. James couldn't hide the shock from his face. Slughorn had never paid much attention to him, since he was positively shocking at potions. So why he had suddenly caught the professor's attention he didn't know - especially when he had just made five explosions in this lesson alone.

"Uhh.." He stuttered, looking at Remus for some back up. The boy simply shrugged, a smug smirk on his face as he watched. He wasn't going to do shit to help him, especially after both James and Sirius always made fun of him for going to Slugorn's extravagant dinners and parties. James eventually nodded, not having the words to accept without laughing.

"Good good! I'll see you then, Mr Lupin will know where to go!" He boomed again, one last clasp on the shoulder before going over to another student. Once he had walked away, the four burst out in laughter.

"What the fuck just happend?" Sirius wheezed, leaning against Remus. James just shook his head in disbelief.

"I- I. I just blew up five different attempts at this potion and he invites me to a dinner? " The boys went silent, looked at each other, before laughing again. He didn't know what had changed the Professors mind about his disinterest for James, but he wasn't complaining. He was very curious what the famous slughorn dinners were like. Remus didn't say much about them, albeit because he could barely get a word in without James and Sirius teasing him, but all he said is that they were fine. They eventually got back to their potions, with James sighing, closing his eyes for a moment as he recollected his thoughts.
